User Comment: Takeout only

This place is Takoyaki Juuhachiban, located in the bustling Dotonbori, where tourists are almost always lining up. Payment is cash only, and you need to order through a vending machine.

The staff are very quick, so even with a long line, you don’t have to wait too long. This time, I ordered 6 pieces with sauce and mayonnaise (630 yen).

The ratio of octopus to flour is decent, but the taste leans towards salty. Overall, it’s very authentic takoyaki, but it wasn’t particularly impressive. It feels like all the takoyaki in Dotonbori taste pretty much the same, haha.

Reviewer Comments: There's a sink at the food street.

This place is the original Choboyaki Honpo Kukuru at Hanshin Umeda, said to be the predecessor of takoyaki. After eating the famous Hanshin grilled squid, I was still a bit hungry and happened to see that there was quite a crowd at this shop next door, so I decided to queue up and give it a try. I ordered one for 660 yen. It looks somewhat like the traditional egg pancake from Taiwan, has a soft and chewy texture, but the sauce was a bit too salty. Overall, it was an interesting experience, but I wouldn't particularly want to eat it again.

Afternoon Tea1 ppl¥500

Review from a braces wearer: Takeout only.

This place is Phoenix Pavilion, a shop selling takoyaki in Uji.

We ordered 6 pieces for 500 yen. The takoyaki had a mushy texture, even the fork couldn't stick in it, and the octopus inside was so small it was nearly nonexistent, with a very ordinary taste. This is the most unappetizing takoyaki I've ever had; I prefer the texture of Taiwan's version.

"No comparison, no harm, really 🥲" by me, who could only come here to eat after the previous shop closed down.

#Open during the New Year
We will be open from New Year's Eve to the third day of the New Year from 16:30 to 23:00.

<About the food 🥣>

I originally wanted to eat the MOMO takoyaki across the street, but the previous customers bought up all the remaining takoyaki, so I could only come to Nihon Boat 🥲🥲

In my personal opinion, the takoyaki at this Nihon Boat doesn't have much flavor...

At first, I thought it was because I ordered the original flavor, so I could only taste mayonnaise, but my sister felt the same way after trying the wasabi-flavored takoyaki.

It just feels like their takoyaki is a bit different from others; it's smaller and lacks flavor. Both my sister and I agree that this is the worst Nihon Boat we've eaten so far... 🫠

<About the staff 👨‍🍳>

The staff wore gloves while making the takoyaki, which feels quite hygienic, and there’s a server nearby who can help handle payments, so there's no issue with gloves touching money.

I saw the staff training a new employee when I was purchasing; I hope they can do well 💪

<About the environment 🐾>

Located inside Luodong Night Market, opposite to MOMO takoyaki, with an intersection nearby.

"I really want to eat takoyaki~" by the happy sister who wanted to eat it yesterday but couldn’t, and today my brother bought it for me.

<About the Food 🥣>

To be honest, no comparison, no harm done (´・Д・)」

Seven pieces of takoyaki for sixty yuan, which is one more than at Nishikido, but the price remains the same. Personally, I think it's quite a good deal🤣

Their takoyaki has a crispy outer layer, the sauce is on the sweeter side, and there's a hint of wasabi without being overwhelming. Overall, it tastes pretty good—just how I like it.

<About the Staff 👨‍🍳>

The staff all wear gloves, and the food preparation seems quite clean, until I noticed that the staff wear gloves while handling money...

<About the Environment 🐾>

Located in the Luodong Night Market, with a 7-Eleven and Daiso nearby, it's quite a nice spot to browse around!

【Foodholic Nako @ Osaka, Japan】

Although I'm not a big fan of traditional soft Japanese takoyaki, this place caught my attention because it has a Michelin recommendation, so I was curious to check it out.

"Mitsubishi Takoyaki Kōgaru Honten" is located in the America Village area of Shinsaibashi, Osaka, right in front of Triangle Park, so there were quite a few people who, like us, bought takoyaki and sat in the park to eat.
PS: However, the park isn't very clean; the ground is quite littered.

Original Takoyaki ¥600
There are a total of ten pieces, but they are relatively small, and if you're not afraid of burning your mouth, you can pop them in whole.
They’re topped with lots of finely shredded bonito flakes and drizzled with mayonnaise, but not so much that it makes you feel sick.
The fillings are soft enough that you might question whether they’re cooked, and while the takoyaki itself isn’t large, the pieces of octopus make up a good portion of it. They taste very fresh, the outside is crispy, and the seasoning is nice. If I have the chance to pass by again, I'd be willing to visit again.

【Foodholic Nako @ Kyoto, Japan】

"Kari Kari Hakase Kyoto Nishiki Store" is located inside Nishiki Market. There’s a small dining area, just a standing bar, which gets quite cramped. In winter, with heavy clothing, it can be difficult to get in and out.

Original Takoyaki (6 pieces) ¥450
Kari Kari Hakase specializes in super large takoyaki. The pieces are really quite big, but mostly they consist of batter, with only small bits of octopus, which you really have to search for to find.

It’s worth mentioning that their batter has a very unique texture; it’s so soft that it’s almost like mochi. The first bite feels a bit gross, making you wonder if it’s undercooked, but the more you eat, the more interesting it becomes.

However, I've never really liked the texture of Japanese takoyaki that much. Compared to it, I probably prefer Taiwanese-style takoyaki, so I don’t expect to come back often.
