This time is the second visit!
When I came the first time, it was a whole free day before the winter break and I thought of walking out from the dormitory to explore nearby shops for brunch, and found this place (I must admit, I was really attracted by its unique name...).
It was fine until I looked it up, and I was shocked?! There were loads of reviews on Google Maps, all positive; many people mentioned long wait times and the absence of reservation services. I didn’t believe it at first, so I decided to come and try it out the next day.
This place is also tucked away at the end of a small alley. I wandered around the area for a while before finding it. Basically, when you get there, just look for a line of people waiting... that day, because the shop cat was sick, it opened at 12:00. I arrived around 11:20 and was the fifth group of customers.
(I actually thought the shop would open at 11:00 like the last time, but it turned out I was lucky to walk in right when it opened.)
The interior space is small; although there are two floors, there are only six tables. If you’re not in the first six groups, you’ll have to wait!
Overall, the decoration is very American: the music, various limited edition retro figurines and decorations all have a strong American vibe, consistently throughout. It’s a style I’ve never seen before.
This second visit was with friends, on a Friday around 10:40 AM, and there was only one group ahead of us, so we didn’t have to wait long.
No reservations
The shop has cats
Only accommodates groups of four or fewer
Minimum spend of one drink, meals don’t count / Those under 120 cm do not count towards minimum spend
Dining time is 60 minutes
First dish: Philly Beef Cheesesteak Sandwich $270
The reviews all said that the portion size here is large and you’ll feel very full. Just how much is “a lot”? I’m not sure how others with bigger appetites see it, but I felt really stuffed after finishing; my pants were tight...
What impressed me a lot was the seasoning of the sandwich. It looked like salty cheese with beef, but when I bit into it, it was surprisingly light, which really suited my taste! The flavors of the beef and cheese were highlighted.
The accompanying potato wedges were also particularly delicious, sprinkled with some cheese crumbs, and perfectly seasoned. The only downside is that I felt I gained a bit of weight after eating the whole thing...
Second dish: Pulled Pork Cheesesteak Sandwich $270
Like my first experience, the portion doesn’t seem huge at a glance, but it’s very filling… The filling of the sandwich was quite substantial, and the seasoning was just right—not too salty at all! The side was just as high quality!
This is a place I would love to keep coming back to and recommend to more friends! After all, the price for brunch isn’t very expensive, and combined with the atmosphere and decor of the shop, I think it offers great value!
Located near Zhonglun Market, Xin Vietnam Crispy Bread offers a variety of classic Vietnamese breads. This time, I ordered the lemongrass chicken leg bread, which has a crispy exterior and a soft interior. It's aromatic but not overly dry. The lemongrass chicken leg is well-marinated, with a slightly charred meat flavor, complemented by a generous amount of lettuce, cilantro, and pickled radish, creating a refreshing and layered overall taste.
The portions are substantial, priced around a hundred NT dollars, and it has a good overall value, making it a great choice for a refreshing summer meal.
Because I went hiking on Tai Ping Shan, I ended up exploring the University of Hong Kong on my way down. The place was bustling with students, full of youthful energy!
Indeed, the food prices in the university are very affordable. Although the level of deliciousness may not be consistently high, you can easily satisfy a meal for just 50 Hong Kong dollars, which is really great. Outside the sports center at HKU, there are many container vendors, with Subway drawing the largest crowd, so I seized the opportunity to try a sandwich shop that I hadn't seen in Taiwan before.
This time, I ordered a hot pressed sandwich with a cup of soup. The hot pressed sandwich is sufficiently hot, and the fillings are not too dry, so there’s no worry about choking halfway through. However, the meat filling is a bit sparse, with most of it being vegetables. For the soup, you only need to add an extra 6.5 Hong Kong dollars to get a bowl of hearty borscht, which is loaded with tomatoes and vegetables that are cooked just right. It’s quite a healthy meal overall.
I recommend that when you come to Hong Kong, you stop by the food stalls at the university for some exploration, as you might discover unexpected delights.
Comments from the people with braces: For takeout only.
Jiu Ru Nutrition Sandwich (Chang Yi Shang) is located in Keelung and is highly recommended by many as a nutritious sandwich shop. This time, I ordered three sandwiches for 110 TWD, which is quite affordable.
The bread is freshly fried, with a golden crispy outer layer that isn't overly oily and has a hint of sweetness. The filling is simple: two slices of braised egg, two slices of ham, two slices of cucumber, and one slice of tomato, coming together to create a familiar taste with layers of texture. Eating it hot is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; even when it cools down, it doesn't become overly greasy and is still delicious.
The environment is clean and hygienic, but parking is not very convenient. It is recommended to call ahead to reserve, so you can grab and go, which is more convenient.
▶ Braised Meat TACO $100 ◀
The TACO has an incredibly crispy texture, paired with rich braised meat. However, since the braised meat is a bit moist, you need to be very careful when eating it! You get to enjoy two fantastic textures in one bite!
▶ Mexican Spicy Meat Sauce $310 (Set Meal) ◀
We had the Cuban sandwich as a set meal, which included salad, salsa corn chips, and a drink of your choice under $100. The Cuban sandwich is super crispy, filled with plenty of cheese and meat sauce, perfectly blended together, with a hint of spice making it very refreshing and delicious!
▶ Peanut Butter Bacon $180 (Single Order) ◀
Peanut butter paired with bacon is amazing, with a delightful salty and sweet combination in your mouth! This is perfect as a dessert!!
▶ Crispy Fried Chicken Wings $160 ◀
The day we went happened to be buy one get one free on chicken wings, so we enjoyed a lot of them! Even by the end, they still tasted great. The chicken wings are fried to a drier texture, allowing the outer skin to be very crispy, while the meat inside remains tender! They are perfect as a snack while chatting with friends!!
▶ Passion Fruit Soju $250 ◀
Adding passion fruit to soju makes it easier to drink, and every type of beer there is great. It's totally fine for girls to drink too!!
This is a store that can be found everywhere in the UK. Since it opens early, many people actually go in, grab a coffee ☕️ and take some bread to go! The hot food section also boosts its popularity, and I went in because I wanted a hot breakfast!
I directly picked up two small burgers 🍔 from the hot food section. One was a vegetable 🥬 burger, and the other was a ham 🐷 burger. They are just ordinary sandwiches, with a crispy outside and a soft inside. They’re quite decent to eat… Basically, it’s a bit like the microwave small burgers found in Taiwan's 7-11!
As for the coffee, it’s not bad at all; it’s smooth, not too acidic, and has no burnt taste. For those who drink coffee less often, it would be quite pleasant!
Basically, if I'm in a hurry, I might still go in to grab something hot to eat on the way, otherwise, I wouldn't specifically go out for breakfast! It’s really convenient without any issues~
▶ Lava Burger Patty Sandwich $340 ◀
This sandwich contains a beef burger patty, pickles, caramelized onions, cheese, Sriracha Thousand Island dressing, and sourdough bread. What's special is that they use sourdough bread instead of a regular bun! The caramelized onions add a hint of sweetness that pairs perfectly with the juicy beef patty. It's a delicious combination of salty and sweet! It even features two different types of cheese to enhance the flavor.
▶ Delicious Crab Meat Avocado Burger $380 ◀
This avocado burger looks stunning! It creatively substitutes avocado for starch. Inside, you'll find king crab meat sticks and Korean pickles, two very different dishes surprisingly harmonizing together. It’s seasoned with green wasabi mayo and salsa, and honestly, it tastes very much like California sushi! There’s also a salad on the side, dressed with a grapefruit lemon dressing that is sweet, providing a nice contrast to the avocado burger.
▶ Mexican Corn $150 ◀
Grilled corn topped with a special Mexican seasoning mix and sprinkled with cheese. What's impressive is that the corn retains a lot of juice and has a natural sweetness.
▶ Espresso with Soda and Spiced Grapefruit Juice $200 ◀
The aroma of grapefruit is rich and very smooth! It’s similar to the preparation of Sicilian coffee; even though it’s espresso, it has no bitterness—instead, it's sweet! Those who are hesitant about drinking American-style coffee can give this a try!
▶ Espresso with Secret Milk $160 ◀
This is made similarly to Vietnamese coffee, with a sweet milky flavor. If you love lattes, you must try this!
This place can be considered a sandwich shop of the snack type. It's quite well-known in the area, as people were already lining up outside before it even opened! There are actually no seats inside for dining, so most people buy their food and leave in their cars, or like us, we sat in the nearby rest area to eat right away! We ordered two items.
❤️ Hot Chicken Sando
The chicken flavor is probably the signature item of the shop. It has varying levels of spiciness, and if you can't handle spicy food, you can choose the least spicy option. I opted for medium spiciness, and the chicken fillet was very large and tender, juicy enough to be the perfect description... but I did find it a bit too spicy for my mouth, while my friend was enjoying it a lot, so it mainly depends on your tolerance for spice... otherwise you'll end up like me, needing to drink a lot of water after a few bites!
❤️ Fish Sando
If you've ever tried their McFish sandwich, you'll likely be completely conquered because it's way better than McDonald's McFish! Their fish sandwich is more than twice the size of McDonald's, and when you take a bite, you can see a huge piece of white fish! Plus, their sauce is very appetizing, making you want to eat a few more bites. The portions are actually very generous; I couldn't finish it by myself, and even a guy would feel quite full after eating it—definitely generous and not at all stingy!
Overall, I highly recommend it, but the location is not easy to find, and it's quite an inconspicuous little shop! But if you have the chance, I definitely recommend going to try it out!
Chain fast food sandwich shop
After choosing the main dish, you select the bread, vegetables, and sauces
There are many options and a high degree of freedom
For picky eaters like me, it's easy to avoid everything I don’t eat
Or for those who enjoy rich toppings, they will also like it
If two people order the same main dish, they can customize it separately
But they both pay for the 12-inch price 👍
And the standard operating procedures are well implemented
Each time, the portion size is consistent
Today, I had tender sliced chicken on white bread with English sliced cheese, small cucumbers, and no sauce
After placing the main dish and cheese on the bread, it gets heated
The melted cheese is wonderful
Biting into it offers a rich texture
The only downside is that the 6-inch sandwich makes you hungry quickly.

The sandwiches are very distinctive and delicious, made with rich and quality ingredients.
The sandwiches are hand-pressed on the spot.
Although there is a bit of wait time for their preparation, they are extremely tasty! 👍👍
The drinks are standard.
The desserts are also quite good.
The overall style of this café is very well created,
making it perfect for taking photos! 😍
Whether from the outside to the inside,
every angle looks great for capturing. ✋
The exterior has a vintage feel,
like a corner grocery store.
Inside, there are various small objects and items that are great for viewing and photographing.
The only drawback might be that the indoor space is a bit small…
The distance between tables is very tight,
but it also offers a cozy and warm feeling.
This place is perfect for bringing a book or a small laptop and phone,
to leisurely spend time here,
order a sandwich or dessert,
paired with a cup of coffee or tea,
enjoying a relaxed time in Hualien,
giving off a sense of paradise!
