The shop is located deep inside the Ronghua Fugui Plaza, with no obvious signage. The dining area is open space. In this chilly weather 🥶, it is recommended to take away your food to enjoy at home. Friends living in the Taichung area can also use delivery platforms to bring delicious meals home ~
Dishes
A proper boiled meal box 🍱, with basic ingredients including broccoli 🥦, sweet potato mash 🍠, mushrooms 🍄🟫, half a century egg or boiled egg 🥚, half a sweet cake, and a bowl of clear chicken soup 🥣. The difference lies in the main dishes.
📍 Spicy Chicken Rice 💰175
The locally sourced fresh chicken thigh is very tender, drizzled with thick spicy bean paste and topped with plenty of chopped green onions. The spiciness 🌶️ is at a high level, and the saltiness is quite strong. Those who enjoy bold flavors and spice shouldn’t miss this!
📍 Hainan Chicken Rice 💰140
Also based on locally sourced chicken thigh, topped with plenty of scallion oil sauce that pairs excellently with rice. Personally, I prefer this combination; it makes you want to keep taking bites 😋.
📍 Golden Fried Tofu 💰90
Fresh from the pot, the tofu is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Drizzled with the shop's prepared sweet and sour sauce, it is a perfect match. This is a recommended side dish you can order ~
📍 Crispy Fried Wontons 💰90
The small wontons are crispy on the outside after being fried, with the accompanying sauce being the sweet and sour type. The flavor is decent, but the texture is a bit hard; biting into them gives a starchy fullness that's quite satisfying ~
📍 Iced Black Tea 💰30
📍 Thai Milk Tea 💰60

The Sun Family Diner is located on Songshan Road in the Xinyi District. Nearby are Yongchun Metro Station and Hulinh Street Market, making it quite lively. It seems to have been operated locally for over a decade.
Today, I took out a mixed rice, five-spice beef rice, and miso soup, totaling 260 NT dollars.
Mixed Rice:
The main dish includes three types, which should be sea bream fillet, squid fillet, and Japanese-style grilled meat. Although the portions are smaller individually, being able to try several types makes it quite worth recommending. The sea bream and squid fillet are both crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, very delicious.
Five-Spice Beef Rice:
The braised beef is generously laid over the rice, which really makes your mouth water. The flavor is also quite delicious, with the beef’s braising sauce being perfectly balanced between salty and sweet. The side dishes in the bento box are also of pretty good quality.
Miso Soup:
Regular miso soup, but this bowl is only 10 NT dollars and is already delicious enough.
Overall, it lives up to its reputation as a long-standing local eatery. There is always a long line during mealtimes, and the crowd often surpasses that of the neighboring Dongmen Duck Restaurant. The bento portions are quite substantial, and the quality of the rice is consistently good.
Highly recommended to everyone!
The "Yuan Shuang Yuan BBQ Rice Specialty Store" is located on Hsuchang Street, right behind the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store at the station. The large yellow sign is quite eye-catching, and the menu is simple and straightforward.
Today, I enjoyed the special hidden edition, priced at 120 TWD.
Special Hidden Edition:
In short, it has a bit of everything—shredded chicken for the chicken rice, large pieces of grilled meat, juicy karaage, and more. The sauce is quite good, sweet but not overwhelming, nicely bringing out the rich meat flavors. The side dishes are standard; the pickled vegetables, glass noodles, and cabbage are all decent. There’s also a fried egg, which is a nice surprise for this price range.
The fresh chili peppers in the store are also good, with a decent level of spiciness that really adds flavor and depth. The rice has a firmer texture, but when combined with the BBQ sauce, I found it very delicious.
Overall, it’s a nice bento shop. I visited around 3 PM, and perhaps because the store was preparing for the next batch of bentos, it was a bit chaotic, resulting in limited seating. However, considering the deliciousness of the meal and the moderately priced offerings around the Taipei Main Station area, I would definitely come back to try other dishes.
I recommend it to everyone.
When I heard that Kiilung was recommended for a trip, I decided to give it a try! It was located down an alley just a step off the main street, so at first, I didn’t know where it was and ended up getting lost.
【Atmosphere of the Store】
It’s a popular place, but there are only a few seats inside, so I had to wait about 15 minutes, and there were many takeout customers as well. Everyone on the staff seemed busy, and the lively sounds typical of a local Taiwanese shop were all around, but they kindly taught me where to sit and wait, and how to place my order!
【Taste of the Food】
I ordered the pork ribs and shrimp rice and miso soup! The pork ribs and shrimp rice was a bit oily, but the creaminess of the soft-boiled egg matched it perfectly 🍳 (though I did feel a bit sick afterward...). The miso soup was sweet compared to Japanese miso soup, and there were plenty of tofu chunks in it which made it delicious! It tasted like the miso soup served in school lunches, haha. But at only 10 NT dollars, it’s a good idea to get soup if you're ordering a main dish✨.
【Overall Evaluation】
Delicious food that is voluminous yet affordable, it offers great value for money👌! The chicken leg rice and pork bone soup that my friend had also looked really tasty, so I would definitely like to go again!
Pingtung's long-established bento shop—Huayueyuan Bento, truly represents great value for money! The prices here are very friendly, with a mixed bento costing only 70 NTD. The variety is rich and diverse, and the portions are generous, leaving you feeling full and satisfied. Their roasted meat is particularly my favorite; the skin is crispy, and the inside is tender and juicy, with every bite filled with aroma, making it truly memorable.
Additionally, the chicken leg bento in the shop is also highly recommended! At only 90 NTD, the chicken leg portion is substantial, the skin is crispy, and the meat is tender and juicy; every time I eat it, I feel it’s a great value. No wonder this shop's business is always thriving; whether it's the price, flavor, or portion size, everything makes you willing to return again and again. It's a classic choice in Pingtung's bento scene!
Pingtung's newly opened bento shop in August - 小吉腿庫飯 (Xiao Ji Leg Rice). The white sign with red characters is indeed distinctive, and the simple and straightforward name immediately tells you that it specializes in classic leg rice, creating a vibe reminiscent of old Taiwan.
Pork leg rice 💰100, cooked thoroughly, with a slightly sticky gel-like texture, and the parts with tendons have a nice chewiness, making it very enjoyable to eat. The white rice is drenched in their braised sauce, which is sweet and salty, making it very complementary with the rice. Unfortunately, the selection of side dishes isn’t very diverse, with only two florets of broccoli and dried bamboo shoots, which can feel a bit bland after finishing the meal.
This bento shop is truly a surprise! The meals are not only affordable, but the portions are also generous, leaving you feeling full and satisfied. Each dish is made with care, the ingredients are fresh, and the cooking is just right, definitely above the standard of regular bento shops. With such high value for money, it's no wonder that once you try it, you become a regular customer. Whether you're a working professional or a student, this place is the top choice for bento. I recommend it to all friends who seek deliciousness and affordability. Highly recommended!
Every time I pass by, it's always a steady stream of people. This time, since I happened to have some free time while doing business nearby, I decided to check out how impressive it is, only to discover that it’s the popular online shop "Fan Fan"!
There is a simple seating area for dine-in, as well as takeout and delivery services. I ordered the popular recommendations "Charred Beef Brisket" and "Extreme Charred Chicken Thigh Rice" to take out. The "Charred Beef Brisket" comes in medium and large servings. Since I wasn't very hungry this time, I ordered the medium serving, and the charred main dishes required a 20-minute wait for takeout.
The moment I opened the food box, the aroma of the charred beef brisket and chicken thigh filled the air, instantly whetting my appetite. Personally, I believe that although the side dishes are quite simple, the overall flavor is still worth the price.
*Just to mention, all beef brisket items have increased by $15, as noted on the business card.
Pingtung's famous old shop for ribs - Xiao Huang Ribs, offers a variety of dishes including rice and noodles, with affordable prices that are popular among many students and young professionals. The star of the show is the crispy fried ribs on the outside and flavorful on the inside. You can choose three side dishes with the ribs for just 75 NTD!
It's already 2024, and they still have a 75 NTD rib bento. Xiao Huang has been around for 25 years. I always thought it was called "Lao Cha," but after looking closely today, I realized it's actually called Xiao Huang 😂 (Lao Cha is the eye-catching store next door that sells jeans). But the name isn't important; what matters is the high value for money.
The ribs are marinated and sprinkled with pepper, making them quite flavorful and pairing perfectly with the fragrant white rice. However, there are only five or six pieces, which isn't enough; for a guy's appetite, it only fills about 70%. You might want to order an additional main dish to feel satisfied.

The Kinkatsu Taro Restaurant is located in the East District of Taipei City. The nearest MRT station is Zhongxiao Dunhua Station, Exit 3, which takes about a 6-minute walk. There is a fabric curtain on the right side of the store, and as you walk in, there are very few indoor seats (around 2 or 3 people?), with most customers choosing to take away.
After placing your order verbally with the staff, you can only pay in cash. After checking out, you take a number tag and wait for your number to be called.
Today, I ordered the Taro Small Cuttlefish Rice for $140. The main dish consists of 3 small cuttlefish, one of which was slightly burnt, but it still tasted relatively fresh with light seasoning.
The rice is mixed with taro chunks, giving it a special aroma. The amount of taro is just right, pairing well with the rice, but the texture today was a bit sticky. (Since I don't really like taro, I asked, and I couldn't order plain white rice because the taro and rice are cooked together 😂).
The side dishes are all unseasoned: half a boiled egg, slices of cucumber, and shredded carrot. The vendor has adjusted the prices; the previous price was $160, but the side dishes felt richer back then. The side dishes after the price cut taste rather uninteresting. While they are very healthy, they don't stimulate the appetite. It's a place one might go to when they can't think of what to eat for two or three months.
