In Taiwan, there are always these restaurants located in the countryside. Without the guidance of locals, it would be quite hard for me to find this restaurant. This time, I happened to come to Taichung because of work, and after we finished, they took us directly to this restaurant. I heard that the grilled fish 🐟 at this restaurant must be reserved in advance because if you order it upon arrival, you might have to wait longer for it to be grilled. So if you can inform the owner in advance about your arrival time, they can grill the fish ahead of time. If you arrive at the restaurant in about 20 to 30 minutes, you can enjoy the delicious grilled fish!
When we arrived at the restaurant, the parking lot was already full of cars. Indeed, there were many people dining inside. Interestingly, some children had even jumped into their fish pond to play. You can imagine that the fish we were about to eat were actually the same fish that those kids had just been playing with, adding a little fun for the children!
Besides grilled fish, they also have many other dishes. Personally, I highly recommend…
❤️ Bamboo Shoots
These bamboo shoots are very special and quite different from the sword bamboo shoots or sweet bamboo shoots we usually eat. They look quite thick, but in reality, they are very soft and tender, and they really have a sweet flavor. My friend told me that this is actually a local specialty, so if you're here, you should definitely try it!
❤️ Muntjac Meat
This dish is also quite popular among many diners. I generally dare to try any kind of meat, so when my friends asked me if I was willing to eat this, I quickly agreed. They said that when you come to a place like this, trying muntjac meat really feels like finding a treasure, as the meat is tender and delicious. Plus, the stir-fried preparation enhances the flavor, making it a great dish to accompany rice. It’s truly an excellent choice!
I've quietly added this restaurant to my list. If I go back, I will definitely bring friends along to dine here. So I must recommend this place to everyone; I hope those who enjoy this kind of countryside restaurant won't miss out!
A very popular seafood restaurant where you cannot make reservations and must wait until everyone has arrived to be seated. Located in an alley, there is enough parking space, and the environment is spacious, bright, and clean. The dishes are served very quickly, and the overall experience feels quite good.
They offer freshly selected fish and seafood at reasonable prices with generous portions. Almost every dish is delicious without any misses, and the flavors are just right, not overly salty. The only point to nitpick might be that the sashimi feels average.
"Environment"
A beautiful traditional seafood restaurant with live seafood that can be selected from a tank. The interior is not particularly decorated, and most of the tables are round. This time, the four of us sat at an eight-person table, which was super comfortable, and the air conditioning was cool.
"Food"
This time, the four of us ordered a total of 11 dishes, 11 bowls of rice, 2 cans of beer, and 1 can of soft drink for a total of 2580 yuan. There is no extra service charge required. The portion sizes of the dishes are not very large, and the flavors are a bit strong, but still quite good. I recommend a few dishes: cabbage, water lily, Kung Pao chicken, pineapple shrimp balls, and three-cup squid. These dishes are all quite nice.
"Parking"
There is no designated parking lot. Cars can be parked on the street within the white lines, so there's generally enough space.
"Payment Method"
Cash
This restaurant is very famous in Peru, and even after opening a hotel in Santiago, it hasn't affected the business of the main store at all. Interestingly, this restaurant 🍴 does not accept reservations, but no one thinks it's unfair; instead, people wait at the door even before it opens, regardless of whether it's raining ☔️ or sunny 🌞. Every time I pass by, there are long queues at the entrance. This time, I finally had the opportunity to wait right at opening time. The wait from lining up to when the doors opened was about 15 minutes, and I finally succeeded in getting a seat!
Even with a lot of customers, the locals were very warm in serving us, and upon being seated, they presented us with their famous little cookies, which are actually just some sweet potato or purple sweet potato 🍠 chips, but they are deliciously fragrant and slightly sweet!
We were indecisive about ordering at the restaurant, but I believe that anything you pick randomly will be delicious... We originally ordered only three dishes, but after seeing the dishes at the next table, we silently added one more. Every dish from start to finish had its own unique characteristics, and I especially recommend—
❤️ Sea Urchin Sashimi Salad
Normally, a plate of sea urchin like this would be super expensive, but here the price is very reasonable, and the portion is generous. It's incredibly fresh, and each bite is full of sweet and savory flavors, especially when paired with that specific sauce you can only find in Central and South America; every bite is both appetizing and satisfying!
I highly recommend this restaurant. If you have the chance, you really must come and try it out. They manage to give each dish a special texture that makes you want to keep eating; I really want to come back each time to try different dishes! I suggest arriving about 15 to 20 minutes before opening to avoid waiting too long outside!
Because my sister recommended it, I decided to try it out. Once I had it, I became a regular customer. Every year when I come to Jinshan for vacation, I always eat here. This is the third time I've eaten here, but the prices have gone up, and the squid has gotten smaller.
I had never tried crab porridge before, as I’m indifferent to crabs, but I love seafood porridge. Although the menu says the seafood porridge is for one person, it's actually just right for two girls – a very large bowl, and it's plentiful with shrimp, oysters, little squid, and some greens, making it very healthy.
The cold seaweed salad is quite unique; it’s flavored with vinegar and is very refreshing in the summer.
I had previously enjoyed the sweet potato balls and ordered them again. Although they are fried, they seem to be made from fresh fish paste and are delicious. For those who like sweet potato balls, I highly recommend them! They are a bit pricey, but there’s a lot of it, so it’s worth it.
The boiled squid is very fresh, served with soy sauce and wasabi for dipping. The boiled greens, although not cheap, come in a large serving, making it worthwhile.
The dining environment is comfortable, and after reading the story about the restaurant on the wall, I felt very moved.
You need to order before sitting down, and they only accept cash, although you can use electronic devices for the receipt. This time, I arrived around 4 PM on a weekday, and there wasn't much of a line, though there were still quite a few people. It gets busier on weekends, and the lines are much longer.
At the South Liao Fishing Port in Bochong City, there is a fried food stall that seafood lovers can't resist stopping by—Yuxiu Feast World, which specializes in freshly fried seafood and fried items. Hidden among many snacks, it stands out due to its freshness, frying technique, and friendly service.
The stall features a variety of freshly fried seafood and classic fried items, ranging from fried oysters, squid, dragon balls, and squid legs to sweet potatoes, French fries, green beans, and cuttlefish balls. You can freely mix and match to create a combo platter of fried items, with generous portions suitable for sharing among multiple people.
On my first visit, I ordered a mixed platter with four types of seafood, including fried oysters, squid, dragon balls, and squid legs, paired with a serving of French fries. The four seafood items cost 250 NT dollars, while the fries were 50 NT dollars. The fried food is cooked to order and the seafood is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, locking in its original flavor, and it is not greasy at all. The seasoning is mild, especially complemented by a touch of spiciness and garlic, offering a rich aroma without overpowering the main flavors, and it has great depth.
On my second visit, I chose a mixed platter with three types of seafood this time, costing 200 NT dollars, plus 50 NT dollars for cuttlefish balls and 50 NT dollars for sweet potatoes. The cuttlefish balls were crispy on the outside and elastic on the inside, with obvious chunks of cuttlefish, making for a solid texture; the sweet potatoes were fried to a slightly crispy exterior while remaining creamy inside, providing natural sweetness, making them a perfect snack alongside the main meal.
Recommended must-try items include fried oysters, squid, squid legs, and dragon balls, especially the oysters, which are rich in flavor and have a fragrant crispy coating, earning praise even from friends who rarely eat fried oysters.
As for seasoning, you can adjust the spiciness and whether you want garlic based on personal preference; I chose a mild spiciness with garlic fragrance, which is an excellent pairing with beer.
Overall, this place performs well beyond many surrounding fried food shops, satisfying in terms of freshness, flavor control, pricing, and serving sizes. If you visit South Liao Fishing Port, don’t miss out on this hidden gem of delicious fried seafood, truly a hidden treasure on the South Liao food map.
The location of this restaurant is quite special, as it is inside a casino. If it's a holiday, it's best to make a reservation because there are many people coming to the casino to have fun, and many will take the opportunity to dine here! We also came to celebrate Father's Day in the U.S., so we made a reservation beforehand to have dinner.
When we entered the restaurant, there weren't many people yet, and the staff were very welcoming. Perhaps in recent years, more Asians have been visiting places in the U.S., so now asking for hot water in restaurants is no longer surprising; they even provided me with lemon and honey! I found that very thoughtful!
As for the food, some of us ordered salmon risotto and pasta! However, I only took photos of the appetizer I ordered—scallops! The portions were actually quite large, so the five of us ordered three dishes, two appetizers, and one loaf of bread, which was enough to share. Unless someone has a big appetite, a portion of salmon could be shared between two people, and the risotto is about one and a half bowls' worth. If I were dining alone, I probably wouldn't have ordered an appetizer!
In terms of flavor, I personally found the scallop appetizer quite good; the scallops were very fresh and not overcooked, so they had a nice chewy texture! However, the other dish we ordered—fried octopus—was quite disappointing. The batter was way too thick, and there was only a thin piece of octopus inside, making it feel a bit empty. Moreover, because the batter was thick, the texture wasn't good at all!
The flavors of the risotto and pasta were acceptable, but I felt that there were a bit too few ingredients other than the noodles and rice. So when we ate, it was mostly just consuming starch without any shrimp or meat, which was somewhat regretful!
Overall, I wouldn't particularly recommend it. After all, the overall quality of the food wasn't outstanding, and the only commendable aspect of the restaurant was the service attitude. So if friends are visiting, they might want to consider their options; unless it's absolutely necessary, they might choose another restaurant!
Tucked away in the alleys of Kenting Street is a popular seafood restaurant with over three thousand Google reviews and an average rating of 4.7 stars. Let's take a look.
The shop isn't big, and there aren't many seats, but the turnover rate is quick, and it is almost always fully booked.
Dishes are served swiftly, making it suitable for those who come in hungry. The portion sizes are quite generous, with each dish serving about 2-3 people. We accidentally ordered too much and almost couldn't finish.
The sashimi, although cut nicely, had a slight frozen texture, which is a minor drawback.
The fried oysters are crispy and fresh, and it’s best to eat them while they’re hot. The shrimp quality is also very good; the meat is plump, chewy, and easy to peel, with a rich flavor. This dish is highly recommended!

【Foodholic Nako @ Jeju Island, South Korea】
"Jeju Dai" is an abalone restaurant located in the northern part of Jeju Island, about a 20-minute drive from the city center. It can be considered a hidden gem discovered during this trip to Jeju Island.
Why is it called a hidden gem? Because it seems that there are no Taiwanese food reviews introducing this restaurant yet. We stumbled upon it by chance, and there was no Chinese menu in the restaurant, only Korean, so we ordered using Google Translate with pictures. Overall, we were very satisfied with the meal!
Abalone Porridge ₩11,000
There are many places on Jeju Island selling abalone porridge. Although we’re not big fans of abalone, we thought we should give it a try. I heard that the porridge has a green color because it’s cooked with the innards of the abalone. I was really worried there would be a strong fishy taste from the innards, but it didn’t have that at all! It tasted quite light and refreshing. I personally thought it had a hint of tea fragrance (but my husband disagreed). There was a decent amount of abalone, and it had a bouncy texture and was very fresh!
Abalone Rice Bowl ₩14,000
This was served in a stone pot and was very hot when it arrived. From the introduction, it seems there are two ways to eat this rice bowl. First, scoop out some rice to wrap in seaweed and dip it in soy sauce. Then, add hot water to the remaining rice in the stone pot, and after steaming it for a while, it turns into something like tea rice. Both ways of eating were delicious! Honestly, it didn’t have a complex flavor, but it was light, and you could taste the restaurant's care and the freshness of the ingredients.
It’s worth mentioning that this restaurant’s side dishes even included a whole grilled mackerel, which was grilled very well. It was a great value and very satisfying meal!
