The restaurant at the Regent Taipei has always been one I paid attention to. Today, I came here with my family to celebrate a birthday, and we booked this restaurant. Overall, I personally found it quite disappointing. The main reason is that the service was inadequate. Here are a few points:
The phone kept ringing but no one answered. My family had to wait a long time while parking, and I could only get there during my lunch break. I was concerned that I might be a little late, so I wanted to call ahead to inform the restaurant. After the operator transferred the call, it rang for a super long time—at least three minutes. It took so long that I eventually gave up. I later called the operator again to explain the situation, and only then did someone return the call. Although none of us ended up being late, it was still frustrating. 🤔
There was almost no interaction from the teppanyaki chef. For me, the biggest difference between teppanyaki and a steakhouse is the chef’s introduction and interaction during the cooking. I don’t know if our chef was just shy or what, but he completely didn’t introduce the ingredients to us. I found that to be a big shame. The chef at the opposite table had much more interaction, and I noticed that. The description of the dishes was entirely handled by the serving staff, but since they needed to serve everyone, they spoke very quickly without much emotion. Having eaten at five-star hotel restaurants before, I think what stands out most about them is the thoughtful service. This experience, however, felt even inferior to that of the Wang Steak Group's Shamooney.
Next, I’ll simply share my impressions of the dishes that stood out to me:
🌟 French Onion Soup with Cheese
This was probably my favorite dish out of everything. It was hot enough, and the onion soup was very fragrant. The cheese’s stretchiness paired perfectly— I really enjoyed it. ❤️
🌟 Pacific Prawn with Honey Mustard Sauce
The flavor was as expected. The prawns were fresh and sweet, with a bouncy texture. The honey mustard sauce brought out another flavor of the prawns. They were cut into three small pieces for easy eating, which was very thoughtful.
🌟 Fillet Steak
The portion was small, but it was tender. It was indeed as the reviews online claimed, and I could really feel the unique texture of the fillet. The garlic sauce paired with it was delicious; it was the perfect finishing touch.
Overall, I wouldn’t consider returning to this restaurant. Unless someone treats me, that is. 🤣🤣🤣 I’ve dined at restaurants in the four to five thousand NT price range before, but this was truly the most disappointing experience to date. A cut is much better and I’d recommend that instead. 😂😂
