A highly recommended premium Wagyu yakiniku restaurant in the East District, with full table-side service where the Wagyu melts in your mouth, a 5-star must-visit! 🔥

I saw other foodies on Fooday highly praising this restaurant "Shang Ji Yakiniku," so I made a reservation for a dining day.

Online reservations are difficult to book, so it is recommended to book early. Like us, we could only reserve a spot for 17:00 on Sunday a week in advance. The dining time is 2 hours, which is more than enough for yakiniku.

ꕥ Service 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 5/5

As soon as we arrived at the store entrance, staff members came out to ask for reservation information and guided us to our seats. They also proactively helped lock our bags and coats in lockers, making us feel thoughtful service from the moment we entered.

The staff also professionally introduced the menu and meat options, being able to explain each item in detail and recommending meat choices based on the guest's preferences. After dining, they even asked for feedback on the most impressive meat dishes to record and provide more customized suggestions for the next visit.

ꕥ Environment 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 5/5

The restaurant environment is very comfortable. We sat at the bar table, with a dedicated staff member across the bar constantly helping us grill meat and monitor our dining status. There are also Japanese-style private rooms deeper inside the restaurant, where another table-side server is responsible for grilling.

The seating area is generally kept very clean, creating an atmosphere where people would be willing to sit down and chat slowly.

ꕥ Food 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 5/5

There are business lunch sets, which are more affordable. For dinner, only à la carte options are available.

The only restriction in the restaurant is: you must order at least three portions of the Wagyu items on the first page of the menu, while other meats can be freely chosen.

The staff will also use a tablet to introduce their current hidden menu. We tried the fruit corn, which was very fragrant, sweet, and juicy. For this meal, the two of us ordered:

✧ Selected Wagyu Skirt Steak (Two Slices) $360
✧ Selected Wagyu Chuck Flap (Two Slices) $260
✧ Boneless Short Rib (Two Slices) $150
✧ Wagyu Apple Roll (Two Pieces) $480
✧ Raw Wagyu Beef $380
✧ Iberico Pork Ribs $380
✧ Black Pork Belly (with Lettuce) $280
✧ Matsusaka Pork $280
✧ Chicken Neck Meat $280
✧ Hokkaido Scallops (Two Pieces) $180
✧ Zucchini $140
✧ Tsukimi Mixed Rice $140

🌟 My most memorable items were the skirt steak, Wagyu Apple Roll, and Iberico Pork Ribs!

The offal meat had no unpleasant beef smell—tender, soft, and sweet. The Japanese Wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth, with highly marbled fat, wrapped in apple shreds to form a delicious and refreshing Wagyu Apple Roll—truly an impressive combination.

Their pork items also had no pig smell, quite tasty and delicious. The main reasons were the high-quality meat and the staff's professional grilling technique, which ensured flavorful yakiniku.

Their “Thick-Cut Beef Tongue” usually sells out quickly. We didn't get to try it this time, so if you want to taste their thick-cut beef tongue, it is advisable to call in advance to reserve it or leave a note when making an online reservation!

——

We also ordered some sours and Sapporo draft beer, which is very suitable to enjoy with yakiniku. Overall, it was a perfect yakiniku dining experience, and I would definitely want to visit again!

Most importantly, the price is very reasonable and not expensive at all! It's an enthusiastically recommended Wagyu yakiniku restaurant in the East District; you must come and try it 🙌

Beef Trio ✧ Premium Selected Wagyu Skirt Steak (2 slices) $360 ✧ Premium Selected Wagyu Sirloin Flap (2 slices) $260 ✧ Beef Short Rib (2 slices) $150 We happened to avoid the Japanese wagyu options, which typically start at more than double the price, but we do offer other Japanese wagyu options as well. The staff recommended the skirt steak, which has absolutely no offal odor and is very tender. It truly tasted as described—delicious and highly recommended!
✧ Wagyu Beef Tartare $380 Raw beef directly topped with egg yolk and sliced scallions, accompanied by a touch of seasoning, presented beautifully.
After the staff helped mix the raw beef, it became a delicious dish perfect with rice!
✧ Tsukimi Rice Bowl $140 This is a very standard TKG (Tamago kake gohan). Rice mixed with egg, topped with soy sauce, green onions, and other seasonings, goes perfectly with their "Wagyu raw beef"!
✧ Wagyu Roll with Apple (two pieces) $480 This was one of my favorite dishes from this dining experience✨ Carefully selected Japanese wagyu beef with beautifully distributed marbling. The wagyu is sliced into large thin pieces and heated on the grill for just 5 seconds until it reaches a slightly red state, then removed. The beef is wrapped around pre-sliced apple matchsticks, creating a refreshing wagyu roll. You get to enjoy the rich, melt-in-your-mouth texture of the wagyu beef along with the refreshing sweetness of the apple, which balances out the oiliness perfectly.
✧ Iberico Pork Ribs $380 The quality of Spanish Iberico pork is undeniably excellent. The ribs are grilled until the surface is slightly crispy, but when you bite into them, they are juicy and tender, not dry, and extremely delicious.
✧ Hokkaido Scallops (Two Pieces) $180 My friend and I each ordered 2 pieces, a total of 4 pieces. As expected, sashimi-grade scallops should be grilled. They didn't shrink at all, and the texture was full and fresh. Even if you asked me to eat 10 pieces, I wouldn’t find it too much.
✧ Black Pork Belly (with Lettuce) $280 Just by looking at the raw black pork slices, you can tell that this meat is definitely not a cheap product. The distribution of lean and fatty meat is also quite balanced, making it mouth-watering.
Slices of black pork are more in line with the Korean BBQ style of eating. Take a piece of meat, wrap it directly in lettuce, add Korean BBQ sauce and garlic, and it tastes very fresh. The meat is tender and has no porky smell.
✧ Matsusaka Pork $280 This dish is the most impressive meat for my friend. The Matsusaka pork is quite full and there are no overly crunchy parts when you bite into it (some edges of Matsusaka pork can be very crunchy, which somewhat affects the texture). Moreover, there are a lot of slices of Matsusaka pork, and considering the price, it's not expensive at all. It's a very satisfying meal.
✧ Chicken Neck Meat $280 This is one of the dishes that impressed me a lot. I thought the chicken neck meat would be served in strips like at regular barbecue places, but unexpectedly, this barbecue restaurant serves it in whole slices. At first glance, I thought it was pork slices, which was very surprising. Once grilled, the texture was typical of chicken neck meat, but each slice was large, with a delicate and crispy texture that was amplified and prolonged, making it quite delicious.
This is the hidden menu's fruit corn, which can only be ordered from the staff's tablet. The hidden menu often changes, so each dining experience is different. The fruit corn is quite aromatic and sweet, and it tastes just like eating fruit. The corn kernels are distinct, large, and plump. I really like it.
Here's the special selection beef tongue offered for adding them as a LINE friend - each person can exchange for two pieces.
Beef tongue is delicious and not fishy.
For dessert, you can choose either tofu pudding or panna cotta. My friend and I each chose one, as a perfect ending.
Dessert cheese after meal
The in-house environment at Shang Chi BBQ is quite comfortable, especially at the bar area. The staff will assist you with grilling at the table throughout and introduce the dishes. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. They are very attentive and professional, with excellent service 💯.
