The outer skin of the leg rice is chewy, and the paired braised tofu and pickled vegetables have a salty flavor, while the steamed egg rice is refreshing and delicious. The pork leg meat has a good chewiness, and other side dishes like the braised cabbage and dried bamboo shoots also have their unique flavors. The meat sauce on the steamed egg rice is relatively light, but it can be enhanced with chili oil for added flavor.
The restaurant requires a queue, with both dine-in and takeout organized in an orderly manner, creating a lively atmosphere that makes one look forward to the arrival of delicious food. The queuing process is well-planned and efficient.
The staff provides orderly service, and after checking out, they give you a number slip. The food collection process is clear, but due to the large number of people, you may need to wait patiently.
The very popular steamed egg slide on the internet. I didn't see the slide, but I'm already smiling just because there's a spot! Especially during peak dining hours, the crowd is really quite large.
Their most famous dish is probably the pork leg rice, but I didn't dare to try it, so I skipped it. However, I saw other people enjoying it a lot; the color of the sauce after being braised is beautiful, and the whole bowl of rice looks very flavorful. It seems like everyone adds a fried egg on top. I’ll come back when I’m braver next time! 💪🏻
Back to the point, this time I ordered steamed egg rice & braised cabbage.
✐ Steamed Egg Rice $60
· A large piece of steamed egg sits on top of white rice, drizzled with minced pork sauce (the steamed egg contains meat chunks and mushrooms). Their minced pork is quite mild, which for someone with my strong tastes feels a bit bland; I guess I personally prefer a thicker, richer sauce. However, there’s a condiment area with a chili oil similar to XO sauce that can be used, which adds a lot of aroma and saltiness, and the spiciness is just right! 👍🏻
✐ Braised Cabbage $35
· I love this kind of home-style dish; the flavor is very approachable! You can even see the cabbage interior. It must be braised until soft and soaked with moisture, but I really hope there’s egg yolk in it!
On a side note, if you want to film the steamed egg slide, you might need to keep an eye on the shop's preparation process because it’s in their own kitchen, so it’s not very easy to take photos in the dining area.
Arrived outside of meal hours but there was a long queue. However, the queue management was well planned, and I quickly placed my order and received my meal. Taking a bite was truly astonishing!! The pork leg was super fragrant and tender, and the flavorful meat paired perfectly with the side dishes; it's not just the main dish that's delicious.
The steamed egg and soup were also tasty and not overwhelming, so I immediately ordered another bowl after finishing. This is authentic cuisine from Kaohsiung! 😍
Speaking of drumstick rice, did you know that this dish has different names in different places? Some people call it Zhigao, while others call it braised pork. However, everyone in the know knows that shankwu refers to the part between the hind legs and feet of a pig; Zhigao refers to the hind leg meat, while 焄肉 refers to the belly of the pig, which is mainly made from pork belly or three-layer pork...
✅ Leg Ku Rice: In addition to the full portion of leg meat on top of the white rice, there are also poached eggs, braised tofu and sauerkraut. The braised tofu and drumsticks were both too flavourful and tasted a bit salty overall. However, the advantage is that the skin of the leg is very elastic and you can eat full of gelatin, but the meat part is relatively dry.
✅Steamed egg rice: A bowl of steamed egg is placed on top of the white rice and topped with lean meat. The taste is refreshing and not as greasy as the drumstick rice.
✅Pork trotters: The skin texture is more tough and chewy than shanks. However, this one requires picking the meat from the bones, so it is more recommended for people who like to chew bones.
✅Braised cabbage: It tastes like a general snack bar, with a hint of sauce and the sweetness of vegetables.
✅Dried bamboo shoots: crispy and full of soy sauce aroma. It goes well with white rice.
✅Bitter melon: When eaten with mayonnaise, you will not feel the bitter taste when you enter the mouth, but it will gradually emit a faint bitter taste after swallowing.

"Jun Leg Ku Rice" requires queuing whether for dine-in or take-out. After ordering and settling the bill, the clerk will give you a number sheet, and you will be asked to pick up your meal and call your seat in order. In fact, all the meals I ate this time were on the salty side. Although the skin of the drumstick was really tender and tasted very good, overall it was very unpalatable, which was a pity.
