Tucked away in the alleys of Dacheng Street in Hsinchu, “Yishi Shengzhi” is a store that specializes in handmade creative Italian pasta. The location isn't particularly prominent, but with a little attention, it's still easy to find. This area belongs to the old town of Hsinchu, where the streets are narrow and the planning is older, combined with limited space that has few outdoor seats. When crowded, one can noticeably feel the pressure and disturbances.
During our visit, although we were able to sit down smoothly at first, subsequent guests arrived one after another, and our conversations were frequently interrupted by people waiting nearby or inquiring about takeout. If you want to focus on savoring the dishes, it's recommended to choose takeout for a more comfortable experience.
The meals are above standard.
I highly recommend the "Rich Parmesan Shrimp Sauce Seafood Handmade Noodles." The aroma of the shrimp sauce hits you as soon as it arrives; the sauce is rich yet not greasy, paired with the chewy handmade noodles, making every bite reveal the genuine quality and complexity of the ingredients. The clams and shrimp are fresh, and the overall flavor is excellent—one bite leads to another, making it a signature dish that will have you wanting to return.
The "Yilan Salted Egg Seafood Handmade Noodles" also performs well. It has a strong salted egg flavor, somewhat like an upscale version of pot-stewed noodles. The seafood is also very fresh, but in comparison, the flavor is more straightforward and lacks a bit of the element of surprise, making it slightly inferior to the shrimp sauce noodles.
Unfortunately, the pudding was sold out this time 😭
Looking forward to trying it on my next visit.
In summary, the dishes at "Yishi Shengzhi" are excellent, especially the shrimp sauce dishes, which have their unique qualities. However, if you value the dining environment, it's advisable to avoid peak hours or opt for takeout, as this restaurant is a sincere, outstanding hidden gem among similar eateries in Hsinchu.
