Located in an alley near the Taipei Arena, "Bihai Kitchen" is a restaurant that mainly serves home-style stir-fry and classic Chinese dishes. The restaurant can be quite noisy and the space is a bit cramped, yet it's still suitable for family gatherings or friendly get-togethers. The menu offers a rich variety of dishes with generous portions, making it a place where you can eat your fill and enjoy yourself.
The standout dish is their "Pork Knuckles." The meat is exceptionally tender, the fatty parts melt in your mouth, and the lean meat is not dry at all. The overall seasoning is on the lighter side, which better highlights the aroma and gelatinous texture of the pork knuckle. It’s one of the highlights of this dining experience, and you won't feel burdened after eating it. 🍖
Another surprise is the "Old Skin Tender Meat," which features crispy outside and tender inside tofu paired with a spicy sesame sauce. It’s incredibly flavorful and pairs wonderfully with rice, making you want to order another plate!
The "Oyster Omelette" is fairly standard, but the oysters are fresh and plentiful.
The "Scallion Pancake" is a bit greasy and some edges are slightly burnt, which is unfortunate.
The "Kyoto Ribs" perform consistently, with a balanced sweet and sour taste—delicious!
The "Taro Vermicelli Pot" is on the saltier side, so it's recommended to pair it with plain rice or other refreshing sides for a better balance.
For the main dish, the "Shanghai Vegetable Rice" includes pickled mustard greens, following a more authentic preparation method, with a rich aroma—not the kind of version that tries to substitute with just stir-fried bok choy, which is commendable. 👍🏻
For the vegetables:
The "Asparagus with Fresh Mushrooms" is slightly oily, but the seasoning is acceptable.
The "Thai Basil Eggplant" is very appetizing, a dish that makes you want to eat it with rice! 🍆
The "Shrimp and Cabbage" is average.
The "Golden Sand King Oyster Mushrooms" are recommended! They are fragrant and crispy, paired with juicy king oyster mushrooms and seasoned with pepper salt, providing a rich and layered flavor.
The "Stir-fried Shrimp" features large, fresh shrimp with proper seasoning—not too salty or oily, allowing the natural sweetness of the ingredients to shine. 🦐
The "Oyster Sauce Beef" is mediocre; the "Dumplings" win with their large and plump sizes; and the "Crispy Silver Needle Rolls" are perfect little snacks to pair with condensed milk.
Overall, "Bihai Kitchen" is a Chinese restaurant worth trying, with stable signature dishes and quality ingredients, especially suitable for sharing with a group and tasting a variety of dishes. The pork knuckles, old skin tender meat, and golden sand king oyster mushrooms are the three most recommended dishes. If you're near the Taipei Arena, it’s definitely worth a try!
