The outer shell of the Imagawa-yaki from Hanayoshi in Tokyo is crispy, and the fillings come in various flavors. The signature cream is sweet and fragrant, while the red bean mochi has a moderate sweetness. The ingredients are carefully selected, giving it a sense of luxury.
The atmosphere in the store is relaxed, and there are often customers visiting, which makes one feel warm and friendly.
The boss lady is friendly and provides attentive service. Even when busy, she doesn’t forget to remind customers of the wait time, which makes people feel pleasant.
【Foodholic Nako @ Taipei】
Every time I pass by the area near the Taipei Arena, I notice this place called "Hualun Tokyo Imagawayaki," and it seems to have pretty good business. However, since I was never hungry at the time, I had never tried it. Today, as I passed by, it happened to be afternoon tea time, so I decided to buy some to give it a try!
Inside the shop, there are only the boss and his wife, and they happened to be quite busy taking several phone orders for large quantities. The boss's wife kindly informed me that if I ordered a flavor that wasn't currently being made, I might have to wait about 5 minutes.
There are many different flavors available; besides sweet ones, there are also savory options like tuna and preserved vegetable rice, all priced at $22 each.
We ordered a signature cream and red bean mochi, totaling $44.
The size is actually about the same as a typical red bean pancake, not particularly large, so selling one for $22 feels a bit on the high side (is this the current price for red bean pancakes now?).
The outer skin is quite crispy, which I really liked, and the filling portion is about standard, not overly generous.
The signature cream was indeed a signature; it was rich and sweet. Compared to other red bean pancakes on the market, it felt a bit more upscale in flavor, showing care in the ingredients used. The sweetness of the red bean mochi was lower than I expected; the sweetness mainly came from the red bean, and the mochi had almost no sweetness. It tasted average, and personally, I thought the cream was more delicious!

In my opinion, the best wheel cake in Taipei definitely has to be "Hualun Tokyo Imagawayaki"!!!!!
It's really, really, really delicious!! 🥺
It's one of those foods that you just crave every time you pass by the Taipei Arena, a little happiness that comes with walking by!
The outer skin of Hualun's Imagawayaki is different from regular wheel cakes. The owner said they use a cake recipe for their batter, so it’s softer and filled with the aroma of eggs. I think it’s delicious even just by itself!
But even more incredible is its filling! There are a total of 13 different flavors. This time I got the signature cream, chocolate cream, milk fudge, and taro paste, and each one is amazing!
⭐️ Personally, my favorites are the "signature cream" and "chocolate cream." Their cream filling is different from the typical cream wheel cake; it’s lighter in color and super smooth and tasty!
If I had to describe it, it's closer to the taste of crème brûlée because of its amazing base. The chocolate cream made from this base is just as delicious!
The milk fudge and taro paste are also good, but since the cream is so impressive, they don't stand out as much. However, those who enjoy these flavors can still get them.
I’ve bought from here many times, and I still can’t help but exclaim with joy every time I eat it! ☺️ The owner is very nice, and the business is always bustling. This time, I happened to be nearby, so I rallied a group of friends to go buy some together.
Even though there were many customers and it was busy, the owner still kindly reminded us that with a purchase of ten, you get one free, so we could remember to gather our items for checkout. She's really a kind person 😆 If you happen to pass by, you should take a detour to the alley and try it out; you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Delicious Imagawayaki at Taipei Arena, highly recommended for everyone! 👍
Keikawa-yaki that looks like red bean cake but not red bean cake
The outer layer tastes like chicken cake + bread, soft and creamy, and feels like a Japanese snack.
(It’s not the traditional red bean cake crust at all!)
You will definitely fall in love with it once you eat it! !
I have eaten at this restaurant since I was a student 10 years ago and love it very much.
Now I work nearby, and occasionally my colleagues and I come here to buy, and everyone falls in love with it...
It’s just that it’s very common to see that you can’t get anything to eat. Because business is so good, everyone will call and make reservations in advance! (It seems that there is also delivery)
The flavors that can be sold on-site are often very sporadic~
I personally love soufflés and peanuts. Absolutely unbeatable. I recommend them all my life.
