Located at the foot of Xiangshan in Xinyi District, Lao Qiu Beef Noodle is a popular dining spot for many after hiking. Although this review is about takeout, I personally recommend dining in. They offer unlimited red tea and soy milk, along with various condiments to choose from. Almost every time I pass by, there’s a queue outside.
The prices and portion sizes here are considered above average, but given that it’s in the Xinyi District, it seems reasonable, as rent must be very high!
✐ (Small) Beef Tripe Soup / Thick Noodles $145
✐ Cold Mixed Cucumbers $40
I’ve tried all three soup bases, and I ultimately prefer the light and flavorful clear broth beef noodles. If you want a chewy texture, you can choose the thick noodles like I did; they’re quite Q and bouncy. However, the portion size isn’t very large. You can see in my fourth picture how it looks after all the ingredients are added. There are just a piece or two of each meat, so it can be filling for women, but I’m not sure if it’ll be enough for men.
(Worth mentioning is their impressive takeout packaging; the soup and noodles are separated and neatly packaged, so there’s no mess or greasy hands.) They also pack a separate serving of cold cucumbers, which are quite fragrant with a slight spiciness. Eating the cold cucumbers alongside the beef noodles is another delight! 😋
