The variety of dishes is abundant. The salmon fried rice is aromatic, the truffle scrambled eggs are smooth and tasty, and the stir-fried vegetables are standard. The oyster fritters, although small, are crispy, and the overall flavor is good, making it suitable for sharing among multiple people.
The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere, the owner is cool but quick in action, making it suitable for gatherings of three to five friends for meals or late-night snacks.
The boss handles everything effortlessly, moves quickly, and reminds customers about portion sizes when ordering. The service is thoughtful.
Foodholic Niko @ Taipei
"Ah Guo Late Night Diner" is located near Minquan West Road Station and Shuanglian Station, roughly in the middle of the two stations, about a 10-minute walk. The exterior looks very unassuming, just like any regular snack shop.
Inside, there is only one person serving as both the owner and staff, who is probably Ah Guo himself. The owner doesn't say much and gives off a cool vibe. Even though there is only one person, he is quite quick with the service, continuously bringing out dishes without making us wait long.
P.S. There were four of us dining, but initially, only my husband and I arrived. We ordered a ton of food (for four people), and when Ah Guo saw our order list, he said, "You won't be able to finish all this." I felt that the owner was really considerate to remind customers about the portion size, haha.
"Ah Guo Late Night Diner" seems to focus on savory porridge and rice vermicelli soup with squid (as these dishes are highlighted on the menu), but we didn’t order either, haha.
Salmon Fried Rice $150
You can add chili for an extra charge. It comes with shrimp roe and a half-cooked egg, packed with protein! The salmon fried rice itself is quite fragrant; I think it's a flavorful dish that isn't too pricey, not bad at all!
Lard Mixed Rice $40
This also comes with a half-cooked egg. Eating the runny yolk with the rice was nice, but the portion size of this rice was astonishing, about three times what I imagined. I felt very full just from this bowl. The combination of lard and soy sauce brings back childhood flavors. However, I felt a bit disappointed that today’s rice had a bit of an oily taste, so I didn’t finish it.
Shacha Warm Lamb $180
I initially thought it was just lamb, but it also came with a generous amount of water spinach. The quantity of greens was quite large, while the portion of lamb was average. However, the aroma of the dish was sufficient, and it was pretty good to eat.
Truffle Scrambled Eggs $180
This dish is marked with a star on the menu. The doneness of the scrambled eggs was perfect, and they were incredibly smooth. Though there weren’t any large chunks of truffle visible, I could constantly smell a subtle truffle aroma while eating. I think this is the best dish of the day!
Pan-Seared Butter Zucchini $140
It looked great, resembling something you'd get at a skewered meat shop. However, the first piece I tried was a bit bitter, while the others were fine. The zucchini was very juicy, and although it’s described as buttered, it didn’t taste too greasy. I would consider ordering this again.
Stir-Fried Vegetables $80
This was stir-fried water spinach, and it tasted quite standard. It’s a dish I would order when wanting some greens.
Oyster Omelette $130
I personally felt the oysters were a bit small and lacked presence. The batter was a bit thick, but it was fried very crisp, making it a tasty fried dish.
Signature Red Fermented Meat $100
This is also a star-marked dish. The accompanying sauce is sweet and savory, adding to the flavor when dipped. Eating it plain was okay... quite crispy, but the taste wasn’t truly amazing; however, it was still pretty good!
We also grabbed some milk tea from the fridge. I didn’t recognize the brand and didn’t know where it was bought from, but I found it quite tasty and not overly sweet. If it's available at convenience stores, I would want to buy some to take home, haha.
Overall, the four of us ended up paying 315 NTD each. I felt very full (extremely full), and the overall taste of the dishes was pretty good. It's quite suitable for a dinner or late-night snack with a few friends. I would be willing to visit again!
Highly recommended! It was already late at night after picking out the wedding dress. This late night snack is really great.
This is my second visit. The ingredients are really fresh and there are so many oysters~ The stir-fried vegetables are all high mountain vegetables~
The boss is very chill and has many mysterious dishes. Hope it will be unlocked later
Good choice for late night snack!
