The dining area with tatami seating is spacious. Today, I returned from a camp in Taipei to Changhua. I was originally worried that bringing a suitcase, a huqin, and a handbag would block the neighboring table, but the real test today showed that placing items beside the table does not affect the movement of the neighboring table! (If it were a suitcase, I might reconsider.)
The price of the cocktails is within a normal range (generally around $350 to $380 per drink), so friends who frequent restaurants or bars can give this place a try.
Today, I came to dinner with friends, and I ordered the scrambled egg pork cutlet rice bowl ($200). The dish smells like it has been seasoned with some special spices (⚠️ friends who dislike onions should remember to request no onions). I chose the Ancient City cocktail ($350, 8% alcohol) and really liked its sweet and sour flavor 😍. For dessert, my friend and I ordered the tiramisu with a golden feather ($200). The golden feather is made of chocolate, and it seems a bit decorative. I recommend sharing one serving between two people (it helps to ease the guilt).
Environment
In an old house tucked away in the alley, the shop offers a variety of items including not only drinks and desserts but also savory dishes. What’s particularly special is the extensive cocktail selection available, embodying the concept of afternoon tea during the day and a bar at night. It's hard to define it perfectly. The ambiance inside evokes a nostalgic Japanese style, and since there aren’t many seats, it's recommended to make a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment.
Food
This time, I visited during the afternoon tea period and ordered two drinks and one dessert.
Iced Tea with Ice Cream 💰120: The shop brews its own red tea and adds a delicious scoop of ice cream. The tea is not bitter or astringent; it's sweet and smooth, and the combination with the ice cream is harmonious. Most interestingly, you can also enjoy it with hot red tea—super cool!
Matcha Latte 💰168: My friend chose it hot, but if you want to take photos, I recommend ordering it iced for a beautiful gradient effect. The balance between matcha and milk is very harmonious, making it incredibly smooth to drink!
Hard Pudding 💰80: The texture matches its name—quite solid. It’s completely different from the typical pudding, lacking that bouncy feel, but the flavor of the eggs is rich. It pairs excellently with caramel, and I recommend it to all you dessert lovers out there!
Parking
There are many paid parking lots nearby 🅿️💰30/0.5hr, and motorcycles can be parked on the roadside, which is quite convenient!
Service
The staff’s attitude is very good; they timely introduce the menu items and provide immediate suggestions and reactions when service is needed, making you feel at home.
If you didn't know about it through the Internet, it would be difficult to notice that there is such a Japanese retro style restaurant in such an alley.
Pushing open the two-story store door, it felt like breaking into an ordinary home. When I arrived at the dining area, I saw the bar counter, tatami area, and endless old-fashioned music, and then I confirmed that I was in the right room.
The low consumption is a drink, which makes this shop really focus on tea, and the meals and desserts are only supplementary.
First, I ordered iced milk tea (fresh milk): the ice tastes smooth, the tea flavor is not obvious, and the milk flavor complements the background. The store clerk said that the tea used is different from the "Shigure Milk Tea" advertised online, but unfortunately the latter is out of stock today.
🍮 Showa pudding, the Japanese word for Showa pudding on the menu is Showa "hard" pudding, which is indeed similar to the texture of flat tofu, rather than the common soft and tender texture. It goes well with candied wine-flavored cherries, and the caramel water is even better, so drink it up!
However, although this shop has a Japanese retro style, the people coming and going are still local young people. Examples of the music played: Jacky Cheung - Coffee, You Hongming - Meng Po Soup. The meals are also in the style of a restaurant. There is no consistent experience yet, maybe It takes time to develop its strengths.
