Because I just returned from Okinawa, I'm still reminiscing about the A5 wagyu I had there. The richness of the fat and the melt-in-your-mouth texture were truly unforgettable. So, upon returning to Taiwan, I immediately arranged a meal at Yiqi, hoping to alleviate my longing for Japanese wagyu.

This time we ordered the classic set menu for NT$780, choosing the tender shoulder steak as the main course, paired with mushroom rice. The tender shoulder beef was quite good, cooked to a nice doneness—not dry—but the seasoning was quite ordinary. It was tasty but didn't surprise me. The mushroom rice was rather mild, focusing on the pure aroma of mushrooms, with a clean taste, which was acceptable.

For another dish, we opted for the premium set, which included wagyu. To be honest, when the wagyu was served, it looked beautiful with good marbling, but it failed to deliver the expected wow factor when I tasted it. The aroma of the fat and the sweetness of the meat were not very pronounced; it likely wasn't a high-grade cut (it might not even be considered high grade at all). Compared to the A5 sirloin I had in Japan, there was a significant difference. However, Yiqi's menu didn't specify the grade or cut, so the disparity between expectations and reality is actually quite normal. The wagyu rice was also standard; not bad but not memorable.

The other side dishes, such as the salad and small plates, were indeed visually pleasing, providing a nice visual experience, but their flavors leaned towards being bland, with no standout points. The overall takeaway from this meal is:

It’s not bad, but it's also not amazing. If you have a birthday discount voucher or just want to find a place with a good atmosphere and visually appealing set menu, choosing the classic set (NT$780) would suffice.
