Xiao Dao Tian is quite famous in Hsinchu, with such high popularity that it has almost become part of the dining threshold. The waiting time on-site is long, and without an early reservation, it’s easy to be disappointed; this raises the overall expectations before being seated.
“Karaage Chicken Pancake”
The karaage chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, well-seasoned, and is the most consistent dish in the restaurant. The scrambled eggs are also quite good, soft and easy to eat; the salad is fresh without any unnecessary burden. Unfortunately, the pancake itself significantly drags down the whole plate, with a dry texture that lacks moisture and aroma, tasting somewhat like it was reheated from frozen, creating a contrast with the aforementioned side dishes. 🥞
In terms of drinks, the “Hojicha Milk”
has a decent hojicha aroma, but the sweetness is a bit high, easily overshadowing the tea flavor. The “Matcha Milk” is relatively balanced, with a clear presence of matcha, and overall is smooth, making it the safer choice. 🍵
“Signature Karaage Chicken”
The karaage chicken remains delicious and consistent, with a crispy yet not greasy skin, and the juices are well-preserved. The accompanying sweet potato fries are ordinary, with sweetness and texture within expected ranges, offering no additional points.
In summary, Xiao Dao Tian’s “Karaage Chicken” indeed has strength, and the drinks are at a certain standard; however, the pancake's performance is very poor. If you're visiting for the karaage chicken and light drink options, the experience is acceptable; but given the long wait time, the overall satisfaction still has room for improvement. It’s recommended to make early reservations and choose items centered around the karaage chicken to better align with actual expectations.
