Hai Shan Chicken Rice is located on Tingzhou Road, Section 3, near the Gongguan shopping district, with the Tingzhou branch of the Tri-Service General Hospital directly across the street. It's about a five-minute walk from Gongguan MRT Station.
Today I enjoyed a chicken rice bento box for the price of NT$115.
The chicken rice bento box includes:
The chicken is thigh meat, tender and slightly springy. The skin is well-prepared with no excess grease, offering a slight chewiness.
The sauce has a Japanese flavor profile with a hint of sweetness. I ordered it with a little spice, and the aroma of the chili and garlic pairs well with the sauce.
The blanched greens of the day were cabbage, cooked to a moderate degree, retaining a bit of crispness.
The braised egg was flavorful; the yolk was slightly dry but still pretty good.
The fried tofu was standard, absorbing the sauce and having a firm texture.
Most importantly, the rice was perfectly cooked, each grain distinct and not overly wet.
Overall, it's a restaurant focused on Taiwanese chicken rice.
The dining environment is clean, spacious, and bright, with a very comfortable atmosphere.
At this price point in Taipei, there’s not much to criticize; it's actually quite affordable.
I recommend it to everyone!
