Established in the 45th year of the Republic (1956), the popular old shop Shui Xian Gong specializes in zongye rice cakes and four herbal soups, using traditional methods to create rice cakes, which are steamed daily in bamboo baskets, stir-fried by hand, and made with braised meat sauce. They carefully preserve the delicious flavors cherished by their long-time customers, so it’s no wonder that they are busier than ever and doing excellent business. The takeout is packaged in bamboo leaves, hence the name zongye rice cakes.

They offer a wide variety of items including rice, soup, and braised dishes—all traditional snacks from Tainan. Personally, I usually only eat the rice cakes when I visit, because there are just too many delicious things to try in Tainan.

The rice cakes are made with aged glutinous rice that is steamed to achieve a fragrant, chewy texture with each grain distinct. Topped with selected peanuts, drizzled with rich meat sauce, and layered with grilled fish flakes, all accompanied by refreshing slices of cucumber, they create a rich and delicious dish. Not only do they evoke traditional flavors but they are even more delicious. It’s truly very tasty, and next time I want to try the bone and meat soup.

阿樓師火雞肉飯
Street FoodChiayi City

A bit disappointing. The idea is good, but most of the food in different stalls (tested 3) is pretty average and oily. Nothing else to do inside. But nice picnic table to spend some time with friends. Prices are ok.

Genuine food enthusiasts know that it’s not always about set menus & ostentatious wine pairings. Occasionally, we just wanna head out without a fuss, throw on a pair of preppy shorts for a snacky bowl of old town’s sweet juicy roasted pork, crabmeat & wontons noodle in rich chx broth & a icy c0oL cup of fresh aromatic banana mixed berries cold-pressed juice. It’s often the hearty, casual & simple meals that bring out the true scrumptious taste of Thai. For any ‘anytime, anywhere’ occasions, we’d recommend expats, tourists or even locals to gather in this Bangkok’s top street food court. Sometimes, there’s nothing better than quasi-street eats (with air conditioning, ofc, heheehh). Here, we roam around the Bangkok’s signature food court for the city’s most ordinary yet eXtraordinarily delectable drinks & noodles feasts. nom nom nom + affordable + ample aircon + vibrant vibes + fast + plenty of comfy seats + exotic background music + bromantic sexy lightings + noisy atmosphere all around u like dining in an overcrowded concrete jungle with all the unknown mythical creatures from all over the universe speaking in their languages = fun fun fun 🥰✌🏻
