The dishes are diverse and creative. The XO sauce Hokkaido scallop pasta is tender and delicious, while the golden truffle fries are sweet without being cloying, enhanced by the addition of bacon bits. The 0% cream beer and plum pear cocktail are quite sweet, perfect for those who enjoy sweet flavors.
The restaurant has a British fantasy style, similar to a Harry Potter theme, with a unique interior design that makes people feel as if they are in a magical school.
The service efficiency needs to be improved; it took a long time to order drinks, and it was difficult to find a waiter, which affected the dining experience.
The potion school is located at the intersection of Section 1 Anhe Road and Ren'ai Road, near the famous Ren'ai Road Roundabout. The style of this gastropub is clearly leaning towards British fantasy, with some people saying it’s a Harry Potter-themed restaurant. But of course, everything here is just a tribute.
Today, the four of us enjoyed a variety of dishes, totaling 5,192 Taiwanese dollars. Since we were dining as a group, there were some shared dishes and some individual servings, making it convenient to select a few items for detailed tasting and sharing our impressions.
Butterbeer (0%):
This generous beer mug makes you feel like you’re in a tavern in Ironforge from World of Warcraft, but the taste is complicated to describe — it’s quite sweet. The combination of malty flavor and creaminess greatly depends on personal preference. My wife thinks it tastes like apple cider with a milk cap, um… quite subtle.
Plum Pear:
Also very sweet, this non-alcoholic cocktail has a sweet and sour profile. However, to balance the flavor, the citrus slices on top have a slight bitterness that can neutralize the sweetness.
Golden Exploratory Potato:
Well, with a name like that... let's just discuss the taste! These sweet potato fries drizzled with syrup will be delightful for those with a sweet tooth. It's hard to tell if the syrup is maltose or something else, but the fries styled like candied sweet potatoes are quite surprising. There are also some small bits of bacon sprinkled on top to enhance the dish.
Baby Cabbage / Beer Clam Sauce / Salmon Roe:
This is an appetizer, seemingly consisting of lightly charred baby cabbage with a delicate grilled flavor. The rich cream and beer clam sauce provide a sweet and flavorful sensation. Although there aren’t many salmon roe on top, when bitten, they give off a freshness unique to fish roe, surprisingly complementing the base of baby cabbage.
XO Sauce Hokkaido Scallop Pasta:
With four tender scallops, the texture of the pasta is also just right. The combination of spices, tomatoes, and garlic adds to the deliciousness and balance of the dish.
Overall, it’s a fantastical gastropub with a British vibe. Even the washbasin in the restroom has special designs, making it feel like you’ve gone to a magic school for a meal. Although the prices are not low, it truly is a rare and valuable experience.
Highly recommended to everyone!
Overall: The food was really good, but the service efficiency was quite poor 😂😂
For the dishes, I highly recommend the fresh calamari with the peeled chili cream appetizer; it was quite stunning, full of aroma. I didn't expect the peeled chili to pair so well with the cream, enhancing the flavor of the calamari!
The fried potato chips with Mexican salsa were also very popular among my companions! The potatoes are freshly fried from actual potatoes, giving them a unique texture! The buffalo wings were decent as well; my friends, who are wing experts, thought these wings scored well.
For the risotto, we ordered the black truffle smoked salmon risotto, which left no impression on me. However, I highly recommend the XO sauce Hokkaido scallop pasta; it has a strong flavor but isn't too salty, making it a delightful dish to share among friends.
The restaurant is quite dimly lit; there's just a small lamp on the table, which made it hard to find the waitstaff when we needed them. Additionally, it took a really long time for the draft beer to arrive; I'm not sure why the waitstaff couldn't help the bartender pour the beer. My cocktail took an extremely long time to come, and only after that did the beer slowly make its way to the table. My friends got a bit impatient, especially with so many appetizers but no drinks.
Lastly, it's clear that the restaurant is a Harry Potter fan, as many of the names reflect that, especially in the cocktail section. However, I ordered the classic Long Island Iced Tea, which tasted different from a typical one; it felt overly sweet and had a hint of citrus juice... I was okay with it!
In terms of food, I would be willing to visit again. The restaurant also offers activities like tarot readings to participate in!
▶ Golden Treasure Fries $240 ◀
A super special flavor of fries that feels like an improved version of sweet potato fries, covered in a thick layer of caramel, then tossed with bacon, creating a delightful flavor clash – but it's very novel.
▶ Black Truffle Smoked Salmon Risotto $380 ◀
This dish contains salmon, but the truffle flavor is not prominent; it feels more like a risotto based on a white sauce.
▶ Black Truffle Wild Mushroom and Beef Liver Risotto $300 ◀
Compared to the previous dish, I prefer this flavor more because it contains beef liver mushrooms, making the mushroom flavor extremely rich! It’s topped with dried sautéed wild mushrooms.
▶ Bloody Mary Shrimp Pasta $420 ◀
▶ Potato Chips / Mexican Salsa $240 ◀
The potato chips are very thin, similar to corn chips, and perfect for dipping in salsa; they make an excellent snack with drinks!
▶ Fried Fish with Tartar Sauce $300 ◀
▶ Magical Drug Deep Fried Delicacy $300 ◀
The fried chicken is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside; it's super juicy! I highly recommend everyone order a serving to share.
