Braised pork rice is sweet but not greasy, with a rich braising sauce, although slightly oily. The fish skin and oyster soup has a bit less ingredients; the oysters are good, but the fish skin has a bit of a fishy taste. The soup itself is quite good to drink.
Foodholic Niko @ Taitung
"Haibin Braised Pork Rice and Fresh Fish Soup" is located near the Fugang Fishing Port in Taitung. We returned from Lanyu by boat around 5 PM and decided to look for a restaurant near the port to have dinner. However, there are mostly seafood restaurants around Fugang Fishing Port that are suitable for larger groups, and since there were only two of us, it wasn't easy to find a restaurant.
At that moment, we noticed that "Haibin Braised Pork Rice and Fresh Fish Soup" offers simple braised pork rice and noodle dishes, and we immediately decided that this was the place.
Signature Braised Pork Rice (Small) $40
Since the restaurant's name includes braised pork rice, we had to order it and try it! When it arrived, I noticed the pork was quite fatty, which is exactly to my liking. The first bite made me think... Hmm... this tastes Southern! Awesome! It has a slightly sweet taste, and although the fatty pork is indeed fatty, I didn't find it disgusting (maybe I just like fatty meat). There was a lot of braising sauce, so I finished the bowl with plenty of sauce left. One minor downside is that it was a bit oily, but it was indeed a pretty good bowl of braised pork rice!
Fish Skin and Fresh Oyster Soup $70
At first, I thought the price was reasonable, but when it was served, I felt that the ingredients were a bit sparse. There were only about 4-5 oysters and fish skin pieces. Personally, I felt a bit unsatisfied! The oysters were pretty good, but some pieces of fish skin had a bit of a fishy taste. However, the soup itself was quite delicious!
