The radish cake with egg in the store is very soft and made with real ingredients, and the ingredients in the egg pancake are very rich. The peanut soup is especially recommended; the broth is rich, and the peanuts are soft, making it an excellent choice for a cold morning. Although the black tea is a bit sweet, it still has the charm of the traditional flavor.
The store has an old-fashioned atmosphere, complemented by traditional square and round tables, giving a strong sense of nostalgia. The dining area is spacious and comfortable, allowing patrons to enjoy the view of the City God Temple and the square in front of the temple.
The store provides a comfortable dining environment and has restroom facilities, making the overall service highly functional.
The Hualien Temple Mouth Red Tea is located on Chenggong Street in Hualien City, named because the Hualien Chenghuang Temple is directly across the street. Although the shop is named after red tea, similar to the nearby Liming Red Tea on Nanjing Street, the shop’s offerings are more akin to those of a breakfast shop. It underwent a long renovation and only reopened for business in the last month or two, leaving many to miss it.
Today I enjoyed some red tea, which totaled 60 NT dollars.
Red Tea:
The large cup is 30 NT dollars. Unlike the currently closed Zhongshan Road Steel Pipe Red Tea, the shop's red tea is genuinely extracted from a steel pipe. The overall flavor is on the sweeter side, but not to the point of being cloying; it's a classic, traditional taste.
However, when mentioning the three major traditional red teas in Hualien, I personally still prefer the flavor of Liming Red Tea.
Overall, it is a traditional breakfast shop named after red tea. Since I visited after meal time, I had no plans to try other dishes. But according to friends from Hualien, the taste is also quite good.
The dining area of the shop is quite spacious and comfortable, allowing patrons to enjoy views of the Chenghuang Temple and the Thai double-headed white elephant in the plaza in front of the temple. The shop also provides access to restrooms. The well-known Gongzheng Baozi has moved here for quite some time now, making it a cozy and quiet yet functional little area.
I recommend it to everyone.
The large red sign is very eye-catching from a distance, creating a strong visual contrast with the blue sign of Gongzheng Baozi. This old-fashioned breakfast shop is best visited right after watching the sunrise at the seaside, with around 7 AM being the ideal time to avoid crowds.
Today, the radish cake with egg was very tender, making it a perfect appetizer for breakfast. The egg pancake uses the traditional pancake skin rather than a special batter. Nonetheless, in terms of ingredients, this shop is quite genuine. The tables are a mix of square and round, adding a traditional vibe.
The peanut soup is the most recommended purchase. The flavor of the peanut soup is incredibly rich, and the peanuts themselves are very soft! Enjoying a bowl of hot sweet soup on a chilly morning is truly a delight.
