Braces Review: There's a washbasin that's quite convenient.
This is my first time dining here, and I can feel the owner's warm enthusiasm. She explains how to enjoy the soup base, sauces, and dishes, and occasionally comes by to refill the broth and offers to package leftovers.
This time, the two of us ordered:
Duo flavor hot pot (for up to three people) $400
Half spicy hot pot and half cabbage hot pot, unlimited duck blood tofu refill
The cabbage pot has frozen tofu, cabbage, and taro.
Braised chicken feet $160
Local grass-fed beef (small) $480
Pork loin (small) $280
Original taste dumplings & snow vegetable dumplings half each $260
Fresh bean curd skin $120
Mixed fish balls (fresh shrimp ball + Sichuan ball + squid ball) $360
Crispy pork ribs $320
Beef offal (beef tripe + beef tendon) small $300
The spicy pot has a rich broth that's not overwhelmingly salty and has an herbal taste. Towards the end, they help add more white broth, and the duck blood tofu is quite tender. The meats are average. I prefer the snow vegetable dumplings. The fresh shrimp balls are full of real shrimp meat 👍. The beef offal is different from others; it’s not pre-braised as the owner mentioned, they only use blanched. The beef tendon is soft and tasty. I find the crispy pork ribs average, quite tough to chew. Overall, it's pretty good, and I would return. Next time, I want to try the seafood.
This is a 42-year-old local restaurant. On weekday evenings, there aren’t many customers, and the owner is very attentive, providing a detailed introduction to their store’s story and how it differs from the spicy hot pot elsewhere.
The ordering method is to first choose the broth and then pay an additional fee based on the number of people. Each flavor can be refilled without limit for the broth, and their spicy duck blood is quite tasty!
If you order any type of meatballs without specifying, they will initially be placed in the clear broth. The most recommended item is the shrimp balls; they are super large and very meaty.
The spicy broth is really rich in flavor, but the owner has also emphasized that they do not use any thickening agents, so there’s no need to worry. The spicy soup is thick but not overly spicy, and if it’s too rich, you can request the restaurant to adjust it.
The yellow beef, which is the water buffalo from Taiwan (as introduced by the owner), has a texture that rivals other foreign beef, while the Matsusaka pork is also very chewy. There is a generous portion of vegetables; we even had some leftovers in the end.
Since one of our friends is vegetarian, the restaurant kindly prepared a pot of clear soup with vegetables, and we are truly grateful to the owner.
I can only say that this local restaurant, which has been around for 42 years, is indeed exceptional. Highly recommended!
