The texture of taro balls ice is soft and chewy, paired with a variety of beans, leaving a lasting impression. The prices of the mixed taro balls ice and mung bean taro balls ice are affordable and not overly sweet, making them suitable for a wide range of tastes. The taro balls are solid and made with natural ingredients, and the sweet soup contains red beans, mung beans, and large red beans.
The dining area is divided into two levels, with numerous locations and beautiful views, allowing people to feel the unique charm of Jiufen. The seating offers great views, enabling guests to enjoy the scenery while eating.
The service from the staff is quick, and customers hardly have to wait. They also provide the convenience of self-service, making the dining experience smoother. After eating, customers need to clean up by themselves, and there are restrooms available for handwashing.
Every time I come here and want to eat taro balls, I always walk to Aunt A-Gan at the back, because I’ve liked Aunt A-Gan more since I tried both Aunt A-Gan and Grandma Lai before.
Grandma Lai's taro balls are chewier, but I prefer the denser ones made with more natural ingredients. I don’t like it when too many additional powders are added, so I ended up only eating Aunt A-Gan's. However, the broth for the taro balls is a bit sweet, containing red beans, mung beans, great red beans, along with the taro balls and sweet potato balls.
Everyone has different preferences, so it's worth trying both. The two most famous places for taro balls in Jiufen are these two, and you can choose either iced or hot versions. Aunt A-Gan has a great view from the seating area, and there are plenty of seats where you can enjoy the scenery while you eat.
After eating, you have to clean up yourself, and there are restrooms available for washing your hands.
There is a famous taro ball shop in Jiufen, and there are two main ones that are well-known, each with its own supporters. Personally, I think they are quite similar. This time, I went to Auntie A-Gan's taro balls. It is located a bit higher up, so you have to climb a small flight of stairs, but the environment and view are nice.
The menu is simple and easy to choose from, with options for cold or hot servings. It's very busy, but the food comes out quickly and there are plenty of seats. The taro balls are freshly made, very soft, chewy, and delicious. You can also take some home frozen to cook yourself, which is great.
Jiufen Old Street Must-Eat ⭐️⭐️
Every time I visit Auntie Gan's Taro Ball Ice, there are always many people, but the service is quick and there's not much waiting time. After picking up the meal, you can head to the dining area, which has two levels and plenty of seating with a great view. I vaguely remember eating on the steps of my elementary school when I was a kid; it's great to have such a nice dining area now ♡
The Taro Ball Ice is made with various flavors of taro balls served with beans. You can choose single or mixed beans. It's delicious to have it as ice in the summer and as hot sweet soup in the winter~ The taro balls are soft and chewy, really tasty 🤤
A limited-time delicacy I've enjoyed since childhood. Enjoying delicious taro balls while surrounded by the beauty of Jiufen. When in Jiufen, you have to taste this flavor!
⭐️ Today's Meal:
Mixed Taro Ball Ice $55
Ingredients include red beans, green beans, and flower beans. There are plenty of ingredients and it's not overly sweet; even those who don’t like sweets can finish it. The crushed ice makes it refreshing in the summer.
Green Bean Taro Ball Ice $55
My friend doesn't like flower beans, so the single green bean option is also generous and really delicious 🤤
Jiufen is famous for its food, and almost no one misses it when they visit, unless they are extremely tired, as it is located very high up the stairs with many steps to climb.
The choice of toppings is a bit monotonous, just green beans/red beans and large red beans. You can add condensed milk for an extra $10. However, the price is still very affordable even now, with a bowl costing only $55.
The biggest feature of this shop is probably its excellent view, attracting many tourists who come specifically for it.
As for the food, I found the taro balls a bit too soft and lacking in chewy texture, but the green beans and red beans had some crispness to them, which combined with the condensed milk was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the ice was in large chunks, while I prefer mine a bit more finely crushed. Overall, it was still quite good.
To be honest, a bowl for $65 with such a beautiful view is definitely worth it, aside from having to climb quite a few steps.
Walking from the pick-up area to the viewing area, you can see the shopkeepers hand-kneading those taro balls; they are handmade, not machine-made. Such shops are rare nowadays.
Taro ball comprehensive ice contains red beans, mung beans, pinto beans, taro balls, sweet potato balls, mung bean balls
It doesn't taste too sweet, I think the sweetness is moderate
Taro balls, sweet potato balls, mung bean balls
The taste is very elastic
This is already my second visit!
It can be said that it is a must-eat when visiting Jiufen (˘ ³˘)♥︎
I also bought a box of taro balls + sweet potato balls and planned to cook them at home.
There are also cooking instructions very thoughtfully written on the packaging box.
If you like it, you can buy it and cook it yourself❤︎︎
What's more, the fly in the ointment is that
The weather in summer is really too hot 🥵
Although the store has air conditioning and fans
But if a friend who is very afraid of heat comes to visit,
Maybe it's still a little lacking
