It has an inconspicuous appearance, but it has a good taste with a friendly feeling!
"Xiao Xu Spicy Stinky Tofu" is located near Songjiang Nanjing Station, about a 6-minute walk from Exit 3. There are many street food restaurants on this small road.
It looks like an ordinary house from the outside. The boss and his neighbors are sitting at the door chatting. If I hadn’t stood up to say hello as soon as I got close to the boss, I would have thought it was closed.
"Xiao Xu Spicy Stinky Tofu" and "Hao Style Oil Rice and Dumplings" across the street share a seating area. Since it is semi-outdoor and has no air-conditioning, it is a bit hot. In summer, it may be more comfortable to take it home to eat.
The two bosses know each other well, and they chat in the distance. It’s super fun. It feels like going back to the countryside to eat. It’s very comfortable and I love it! It is also possible that the stores were actually opened together (?), because I heard the stinky tofu boss pointing to the opposite side and saying, "Our dumplings are also delicious!"
Both bosses are super friendly! ! ! It feels like a big brother next door 😂 The owner of Stinky Tofu has a very gentle tone and told me that I can ask him if I have any questions. He also reminded me that if I want takeout, I can call first and there is no need to wait.
Signature fried instant noodles $100
It is a super hearty plate of fried instant noodles. In addition to the usual shredded pork, eggs, cabbage, and onions, it also contains tofu skin, Hongxi mushrooms, and fungus. It tastes very satisfying and feels like a lot. Be healthy~
The seasoning is quite heavy, full of soy sauce flavor, I quite like it! The only pity is that the noodles are a bit soft. Maybe next time you can ask the boss not to cook the noodles too soft.
Crispy stinky tofu (small) $70
It's not the kind of stinky tofu that's fried so crispy that it scratches your mouth. Instead, it's more like deep-fried fried tofu. Its appearance is also different from common stinky tofu. It's in the form of a rectangular cylinder.
If you dare to eat spicy food, it is highly recommended to dip it in chili pepper, which will have a more layered taste.
It is worth mentioning that their kimchi is pickled with passion fruit and has a very special taste. It is more sweet than sour. But if you really want to compare, I still prefer the most common Taiwanese kimchi.
Overall, I think the price of the meal is very reasonable, and I can see the boss's care in cooking. I give it four stars for taste, because the boss is so likable, so I will add 0.5 stars.
