In terms of dishes, the century egg dry noodles and Wuhan hot dry noodles have received praise for their unique flavors and generous portions. However, some dishes, such as the cabbage dumplings, were not very satisfactory in taste. Overall, the flavors tend to be on the salty side, so it is recommended that guests who are sensitive to saltiness choose carefully.
The restaurant has a nostalgic village style, with decorations showcasing the unique charm of the 1960s and 1970s, creating a relaxed dining atmosphere.
There were some minor flaws in the service, such as the waitstaff's lack of attention to the speed of serving dishes, but overall it still maintained a good dining experience.
【Foodholic Niko @ Taipei】
Because "Bride Snacks" has an option for Century Egg Dried Noodles, as a Century Egg enthusiast, I have had it on my to-eat list for a long time.
"Bride Snacks" has three branches in total, and today I am dining at the Baoqing branch, which is located near Nanjing Sanmin Station, about a 9-minute walk from Exit 4.
One commendable thing about this place is that it doesn’t take a break in the afternoon! We arrived on a Sunday afternoon at 2 PM, and there were still quite a few customers in the restaurant; it seems to be doing pretty well.
Century Egg Dried Noodles (Slightly Spicy) $75
The spiciness was higher than I expected, so if you can’t handle spicy food well, you might want to consider this; the portions of Century Egg and minced meat were quite generous, but I felt the noodle portion was a bit lacking. It would be great if there were an option to upsell; the flavor was quite good, I liked it!
Cabbage Dumplings (10 pieces) $80
They were relatively large, but I wasn’t very satisfied with the cabbage flavor; the seasoning didn’t quite suit my taste.
Miso Egg Flower Soup $45
This bowl of soup is quite large, with a generous amount of tofu; the miso was rich and delicious, definitely a plus.
Pork Jowl $80
Sliced into thin pieces, the original seasoning was quite flavorful, and even without dipping sauce, it was fine. It had a subtle aroma of sesame oil and fragrant oil, tasty!
One slightly disappointing thing was that we only ordered one serving of Pork Jowl, but it took a long time to arrive. Later, I noticed the staff had cut it in half and then just started chatting without chopping anymore. 😅
The Bride's Snack Baoqing Shop is located on Baoqing Street in the Songshan District, directly across from the famous "Little Cranberry Stone Hot Pot" originating from Ximen. There are three branches of The Bride's Snack in Taipei, all located in the eastern area, but I didn't specifically ask which one is the main store.
Today, I enjoyed Wuhan hot dry noodles, vegetable tofu soup, and blanched greens, totaling 145 NTD.
Wuhan Hot Dry Noodles:
My first impression was that they were sesame noodles with peanuts and cowpeas. The noodles are not the common round oily noodles; they seem to be a type of fine pulled noodles, which have a good chewiness and texture. I don't have a particular preference for sesame noodles, and I find the combination of hard peanuts and sesame sauce quite subtle. Personally, I didn't like it too much, but the sour taste of the cowpeas combined with the spicy sauce from the condiment bar was quite delicious.
Vegetable Tofu Soup:
There wasn't much memorable about it – just a standard tofu soup with a decent amount of greens.
Blanched Greens:
Although the restaurant's menu states that there are five types of vegetables to choose from (Bo Da Di Gao Kong), due to seasonal differences, there were actually only three available on the day of my visit. For a price of 35 NTD, the amount of vegetables is quite good.
Overall, it's a nostalgic noodle shop filled with the charm of a military village. The decor in the shop reflects styles from the 60s and 70s of the Republic of China, or even earlier, and the dishes carry that flavor as well.
The chili sauce at the condiment bar is indeed very spicy, so please use it sparingly.
I recommend it to everyone.
Military Village Food!
Strong taste, every dish is quite salty
People who love preserved eggs must eat preserved egg dry noodles
Shaozi noodles include cucumber, tomato scrambled egg, sauerkraut, dried tofu, etc. It is a relatively rare dish.
The cold noodles are delicious and you can order them, but you can skip the egg drop soup.
The store sells beer
The location is a little out of the way, but it's often full during meal times and you have to wait!
