This is Mammy Pancake (Jordan branch), located near the Temple Street Night Market in Hong Kong. It is one of the most well-known street food brands in Hong Kong.
This time, I ordered the Earl Grey Tea Egg Waffle, priced at HK$31. It’s made fresh upon order, which takes about 10 minutes, but the aroma when it comes out is really appealing.
The outer shell is so crispy that it crumbles when you break it. Biting into it reveals a crispiness with a chewy texture inside, overall very light and not too sweet. The Earl Grey tea flavor is pronounced, leaning more towards a tea aroma rather than being overly sweet; you can tell it uses TWININGS Earl Grey tea powder, giving it a more mature taste.
Although I think the overall quality is very high, I had just finished a meal at Zeh Hsien Kee right before, so in comparison, this egg waffle wasn’t as impressive and diluted some of the excitement a bit, haha.
In summary: If it's your first time in Hong Kong, you must try these "crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and richly aromatic" authentic egg waffles. However, if you just had a round of savory Hong Kong delicacies, you might find it somewhat underwhelming like I did—but still end up finishing the whole thing quietly.
Also, their packaging is really adorable; the honeycomb design is breathable and photogenic, and carrying it on the street feels totally natural. It's the kind of bag you would want to keep as a collector's item after finishing the treat.
