This time, I arrived at "Chaozuo Huo" on Zunwang Road in Tainan City, a shop that mainly serves fried salty crispy chicken. I originally just wanted to find a place to pass the time while waiting for the beef soup to open at midnight, but unexpectedly stumbled upon this shop. The store has a minimalist design, is clean, and the seating area is quite comfortable, which is quite different from the greasy impression of typical snack shops. The atmosphere is quite pleasant.
The biggest selling point of "Chaozuo Huo" is that you can have the salty crispy chicken stir-fried, but you can also just order it fried. Since we were already there, of course, we had to try a plate of the stir-fried version. We ordered fragrant chicken, squid, sweet and spicy fish cake, and overall the flavors were pretty good. The outer skin was crispy while remaining juicy inside, and the seasoning was just right, not too salty or greasy.
We specifically asked the shop to add chili, but when we actually ate it, we felt that the spiciness was a bit mild and not very present. As for the "stir-fried" aspect, to be honest, it was also a bit subtle—eating it felt more like regular salty crispy chicken, and the stir-frying feature wasn't very pronounced, lacking a bit of that surprise element.
But overall, this shop is quite suitable as a late-night spot. The prices are reasonable, the environment is comfortable, and the food quality is stable. Sitting inside, slowly enjoying salty crispy chicken and enjoying the air conditioning while waiting for the beef soup to open is a chill nighttime vibe. If I ever return to Tainan for a late-night food tour, I would still consider "Chaozuo Huo" as one of my options.
