Peter's Handmade Desserts, located in Taitung, is a simple and down-to-earth dessert shop. It doesn't have overly extravagant decor, yet it gives a warm and solid feeling, much like a small store where locals would regularly drop by.
This time, I ordered hot red bean soup with taro puree, and a cup of taro slush. The hot and cold contrast perfectly complements each other, making it ideal for Taitung's fluctuating weather. As soon as the red bean soup is served, you can smell the subtle bean fragrance. The red beans are cooked just right; they are distinct and yet creamy, not overly soft or mushy. The sweetness is perfectly balanced, allowing the flavor of the ingredients to shine through. The added taro puree has a smooth and delicate texture, rich in taro flavor. When combined with the red bean soup, it adds an extra layer of thickness and aroma, making the whole dish feel more satisfying, like a warm dessert.
The taro slush, on the other hand, offers a completely different experience. The slush is finely blended, avoiding that overwhelming crushed ice texture. Instead, it has a creamy consistency, with a very prominent taro taste that is natural and not overly sweet, giving a true sense of quality. The chilly temperature paired with the rich taro aroma is delightful.
What I love most about Peter's Handmade Desserts is that it offers both cold and hot dessert options, allowing you to find the perfect pairing no matter the weather or your mood. With a good impression left by the ingredients and handmade quality, it's a dessert shop in Taitung that makes you want to visit again.
