This visit to Yu's Room was my first, and it was also to reunite with a long-lost friend. We decided to try what is said to be the best chocolate French dessert in Taipei, hoping to create some unforgettable memories.
The shop's interior doesn't have many seats, and the dessert counter takes center stage. I think these exquisite desserts are primarily intended for takeout as gifts; there is a 10% service fee for dining in, and you settle the bill only when leaving. After selecting at the counter, you simply tell the staff which dessert you'd like to enjoy. You can also order drinks while seated, and they will continually come to refill your water.
The desserts at Yu's Room are beautifully crafted, and there are quite a few options. It took us quite a while to choose two desserts.
The first one is Passionfruit. The staff recommended we enjoy this one first (because the next dessert is heavier and sweeter). Its elongated, multi-layered structure is packed with a variety of flavors. With the first bite, the sweet and sour taste mingles with the aroma of ginger and brandy; the texture is initially refreshing, leading to the fruity sweetness of chocolate, and it finishes with a hint of spiciness—pure happiness.
The second dessert is Yu's Room's classic creation: the round and delicate Shibusa. This dessert is made from various types of cocoa with different tonalities, and you can tell from its appearance that the texture will be slightly rich. Sure enough, despite the large amount of chocolate mousse inside, the flavor remains deep and intense, and each bite necessitates a big sip of tea to catch your breath. That said, this rich chocolate is indeed a signature item, providing us with a profound experience in both appearance and taste.
Besides desserts, consider ordering a drink. If you wish to alleviate the sweetness while eating chocolate, a cup of tea is definitely a good choice. We ordered a cold brew oolong tea, which allowed us to continue enjoying the desserts—what a lifesaver!
If you're a chocolate lover to the core, you might also want to try a chocolate drink. We ordered a summer limited edition drink called "Choco Summer," which is delicate and sweet; just be careful not to pair it with a heavy dessert, as it might ruin your taste buds.
