"Old Mu Family Taiwanese Cuisine" is located near Liaoning Night Market, about a 7-minute walk from Nanjing Fuxing Station. The dining space on the first floor is not very large, and I’m not sure if there’s a second floor. The first floor is okay for small gatherings.
This restaurant sells claypot fish head, but the two of us came for the eel vermicelli. We also ordered two dishes to go with the eel vermicelli, and after the meal, we were quite full.
Old Mu Stir-Fried Eel Vermicelli (thickened)$170
The eel vermicelli here is a bit more moist, with plenty of thickening; it’s not the dry stir-fried kind. The flavor is on the sweet side, and the texture of the vermicelli is okay, leaning a bit towards hard. However, I feel that the flavors didn’t marry well, as the sauce didn’t blend in completely, leaving a slight oily aftertaste, which is a bit unfortunate. The quantity of eel is average; it’s crispy, but honestly, I eat eel vermicelli for the vermicelli, not the eel.
Old Skin Tender Meat $220
The portion is quite large; even though the tofu pieces are bite-sized, there are many of them. It’s really satisfying for two people. For me, the seasoning is a bit salty (and I typically enjoy strong flavors), so it should be fine with white rice.
Garlic Stir-fried Water Lily $220
In addition to water lily, there are quite a few enoki mushrooms. They say it’s seasoned with garlic, but I think the garlic flavor is not pronounced; instead, there’s a strong alcohol taste. Since I can’t have alcohol right now, I only took one bite and then stopped eating.
