This should be my first time eating authentic Hong Kong dim sum in Hong Kong, and it's for breakfast! I asked the front desk at the hostel, and they said this is a common breakfast for them. It feels quite similar to Taiwanese people having braised pork rice and beef soup in Tainan, which is a very hearty breakfast.
This time, I ordered their steam rice with various preserved meats and the shop's champion shrimp dumplings. The rice comes with three different types of preserved meats on top, and each one is really delicious. They have different marinating flavors and are very satisfying to eat! The rice used for steaming in Hong Kong is very different from that in Taiwan; it's longer and thinner, with a firmer grain, resembling Thai rice a bit.
The shrimp dumplings were truly outstanding—the shrimp flavor paired perfectly with the outer skin, with neither overpowering the other in taste or texture. I could easily eat two baskets by myself! 🤣
Furthermore, although everyone thinks that service in Hong Kong isn't great, I feel it's just that people express themselves more directly, which Taiwanese people may not be used to. Personally, I found the dining experience quite comfortable and relaxed. When I accidentally spilled hot water, they were very helpful! Highly recommended~
