In Chiayi, there are many tofu pudding shops, but my personal favorite is Chen Pin Tofu Pudding. Unfortunately, when I visited this time, it was closed. I had to go to the well-known Pin An instead.

I personally only eat soy milk tofu pudding and have little interest in the regular syrup-based tofu pudding. Pin An offers soy milk as a base, and you can even choose unsweetened, which is quite nice.

The tofu pudding itself has a smooth texture and delicate mouthfeel, but overall it wasn't particularly impressive. I chose a few common toppings this time; the taro balls were somewhat ordinary, with average texture and aroma, so they didn't leave a strong impression. They are a safe but unremarkable option. However, the taro paste balls performed well, being creamy and rich, with just the right amount of sweetness, not cloying at all; they are worth trying.

Although a bowl with added toppings costs around 70 NT dollars, which is not cheap in the tofu pudding world, considering the freshness and handmade quality of the toppings, it's actually acceptable. After all, desserts with "real ingredients" shouldn't be excessively cheap, as that may compromise quality.

The dining process is also well-designed. After ordering at the counter, the staff guides you to a seat in the adjacent area and arranges a table number. The overall process is smooth, and the staff’s attitude is friendly, which is commendable.

As a popular dessert shop in Chiayi, Pin An Tofu Pudding maintains consistent quality and a friendly dining environment, making it a safe option for tourists. However, if you are like me and a deep lover of soy milk tofu pudding, you might find it lacking in personality and surprise.
