On Zhongshan Road in Luodong, Yilan, where a variety of food gathers, there is a popular local goose meat restaurant called "Zhongshan Goose Meat Stand." Unlike flashy promotional or tourist-oriented goose meat shops, it is tucked away on the street.
This time, our meal selection included three main dishes and a vegetable. Overall, the flavors were rather traditional and the seasonings were bold, appealing to diners who enjoy the taste of goose meat and strong flavors.
First served was "Sweet Potato Leaves."
After a simple blanching, it was drizzled with garlic soy sauce, cooked just right and not overdone, preserving the sweet potato leaves' unique tender and crisp texture. The portion was generous, and as a vegetable accompanying the main dishes, it performed well, making it the kind of side that you can confidently order for balance. 🥬
"Soup Rice Noodles with Goose Meat"
This dish was my favorite choice during this visit. The broth was sweet and fragrant with oil, likely the result of long-simmering goose fat and bones, making it light on the palate and warming. The rice noodles were smooth and chewy, perfectly absorbing the soup, creating a harmonious texture and flavor. The goose meat chosen was well-balanced; both the skin with fat and the lean meat were tender, not tough, offering a natural goose fragrance and a satisfying chew.
"Spaghetti with Goose Meat"
This dish was slightly disappointing. Although the spaghetti had a nice bounciness and was rich in sauce flavor when mixed, the overall seasoning was a bit salty, enough to overshadow the aroma of the goose meat. Additionally, the portion was smaller, so male diners or those with larger appetites may not find it satisfying. This dish is more suited for those who prefer strong flavors and enjoy the scent of soy sauce and goose oil; if you are worried about the saltiness, pairing it with soup or vegetables could provide balance.
Overall, "Zhongshan Goose Meat Stand" doesn’t venture into extravagant gastronomy, but rather offers genuine goose meat snacks. I would particularly recommend the soup rice noodles with goose meat!
