I'm back to share my secret restaurant again~

Let’s quickly summarize this restaurant:
📍Location: Beitun, Taichung (near North District)
Atmosphere✅ Unique features✅ Taste✅ Price✅ All excellent
🔑Keywords: Taiwanese cuisine, Chinese cuisine, military village food, table dishes, group dining
🛣️Transportation information:
🚗Car - Within a 10-minute walking distance, there are about 5 paid parking lots.
The closest is right across from the restaurant (almost next door).
🛵Scooter - There are designated scooter parking spaces painted on the sidewalks near the park.
(But if we consider the nearby residents also use these spaces, overall it's not too crowded.)
🚲Ubike - There’s a Ubike station nearby! When it’s crowded and hard to find parking, riding a bike is worry-free!
🚂Train - About a 10-minute walk from Taiyuan Train Station.
(Can you believe it? There’s even a train station 😂)
(Taiyuan Train Station 👉 Transfer to the local train at Taichung Train Station ⤴️ and travel 2 stops north)

I still remember when I first visited this restaurant. It was just a random search on the map, and I thought, “This seems quite unique 🤔? Let's let the elders reminisce about the taste of military village cuisine!” So I took the elders to dine there.
To my surprise, the elders became regulars after just one visit. Now, every time we’re near, they insist we come here for a meal.
After several visits, I’ve noticed that the restaurant has been getting better and better!
The serving speed has increased, and the nearby amenities have become more comprehensive. Initially, there was just a small military village museum that could be explored in less than 10 minutes. Now, there are parking lots, a Ubike station, and even a weekend market nearby (which seems to happen almost weekly). The small museum is getting more and more visitors, and more people are coming just to eat.
The first time we came to dine, the restaurant was empty with no other customers; during our most recent visit, it was so full that we could only find seats in a corner 😂.

Another great thing is that the menu is constantly being updated and improved. From my first visit until now, the menu has gone through many versions, retaining classic military village dishes while introducing many dishes not commonly found in one restaurant but offered here!

Frequent diners often face the dilemma of: no matter how we order, we always end up choosing the same few familiar dishes because we like those flavors.
But here, in addition to ordering the usual home-style dishes we love, we can also try various larger plates, enjoying both new and old dishes at the same time!
When dining with more people, it’s even better because we can try a greater variety. 😋

This time we only had three people, so we couldn’t order too much.
But there were still some delightful surprises!
⬇️This time’s meal⬇️
🥬Stir-fried cabbage $200
The stir-fried mountain cabbage was crisp and sweet, sautéed with garlic and garnished with shredded carrots. The portion wasn’t reduced despite the higher price of cabbage, and we even wanted to order another plate of it.

🥚Taiwanese preserved vegetables and omelet $150
The traditional preserved vegetable omelet had a moderate level of saltiness—neither too salty, making it great with rice! The preserved vegetables paired well with the egg flavor, and although fried eggs tend to be a bit oily, this dish was just the right amount of flavor!

🦐Pineapple prawn balls (small) $280
Initially, we were a bit disappointed when it was served since it looked a bit small. But indeed, we only ordered the small portion.
However, once we started eating, we completely forgot about the small portion because the prawns were HUGE! Each prawn was so large that we had to take three bites. Every prawn was this big!
The coating wasn’t thick; the prawn meat was simply that sizeable. Next time, we’ll know to order the large portion directly.

🥬Bok choy and taro roll $380
This dish was something we had never tried (not even at other restaurants)~ purely a new attempt.
According to the menu description: Bok choy, dried tofu, peanuts, and cilantro.
I personally felt it had a flavor reminiscent of Shandong chicken sauce—sweet and sour, fitting into the refreshing salad category.
The taro roll was unexpectedly delightful and was unanimously voted as the MVP of the table 😎 (given that we generally don’t go for taro).
I’m not sure what the outer layer was made of (since it was very thin), but the filling was indeed stuffed to the brim! I thought it would be mixed with some vegetable scraps, or otherwise, having only taro would be quite dense and expensive. But to our surprise, it was packed with shredded taro and taro paste, abundantly filled, exuding a strong taro aroma even when it came to the table, making our mouths water 🤤.

There are still many classic dishes like: Old skin and tender meat, lettuce shrimp stuffing, corn chicken, Sergeant's three-layer meat, sesame oil Matsusaka pork, rice wine egg soup with glutinous rice balls, and so on.

I'll leave the rest for everyone to experience! 😆

Cabbage $200 Actually, the plate is quite large, so the overall portion is not small. I only realized later by looking at the photo that it makes the portion look a bit smaller than it is. 😅
Preserved Radish Omelette $150 This kind of large omelette is fragrant and goes well with rice 🤩
Pineapple Shrimp Balls (Small) $280 Don't be fooled by its appearance! The shrimp are quite large! Plus, there are nuts!
Evergreen Mixed Taro Rolls $380 As soon as it was served, we all exclaimed: This is amazing! Three generous fried taro rolls, filled with plenty of cabbage and a sweet and sour sauce It’s so delicious that you can’t stop at just one bite!
Make sure to get a close-up shot! Look at this taro roll, such a solid taro, no mixed scraps at all! Huh? You’re wondering why there’s no close-up of the big shrimp? Because we were too hungry and only realized afterward that we missed a few shots 😂 The food was too delicious!
The store is just like that, in an instant it feels like time has reversed, making people feel a sense of time displacement. That night, the place was packed with people, with many families gathering for dinner across three generations. Fortunately, there were only a few of us, and there was still space in the corner.
Even the decorations are full of a sense of nostalgia.
Nostalgic iron flower window!
Looking up, everything that I had not missed is starting to be missed, as if I have stepped into a movie scene.
The game console and pinball machine have been moved over too! 😆
Checkout Counter A mix of modern and nostalgic styles, the patterned cement tiles truly have a great feel.
The translation of the text to English is: "Not saying this is a restaurant, one would think it's a banquet. That night, the place was full of guests."
Even the entrance and exit feel like stepping into a nostalgic shop from the past. The atmosphere really captures the essence of veteran military family cuisine. 👍
