🍚 A recommended old duck meat shop by locals

On a whim with my partner,
we decided to have a weekend getaway for two days and one night.
We picked Chiayi, not far from Kaohsiung, just the night before,
completely unplanned and just went for it ❤️

We arrived at the guesthouse around noon and checked in.
After a recommendation from the owner, my partner and I took an U-bike
to this local duck noodle shop that the locals often visit.
We ordered a few different dishes to see how they differ from the duck in Kaohsiung 🦆

➰ Duck Rice (Small) 30
Different from the braised sauce version in Kaohsiung,
Chiayi’s version only has duck meat + duck fat + rice,
allowing you to fully taste the original flavor of the duck.

➰ Fried Noodles 70
How can you not have noodles at a duck noodle specialty shop?
It’s thin noodles + duck meat + water spinach stir-fried together,
the noodles have a slight oily flavor but the texture is relatively better,
with a mild spiciness that’s not too overpowering, overall quite good.

➰ Fried Duck Meat (Small) 100
This is basically a duck version of satay lamb or beef,
seasoned a bit heavier than the fried noodles.
When it was served, I thought there had been a mix-up with more vegetables,
but the whole dish indeed had more veggies than meat.

➰ Sauce Fried Egg 50
I originally thought it would be something like a soy sauce fried egg,
but it turned out to be an oyster omelet without oysters.
It’s a fried egg (without batter) with a red sauce of oyster omelet,
very unique and interesting to eat.

After finishing a few dishes, we felt quite full,
the two of us spent only 250 TWD, which is super cheap.
No wonder the locals rave about it.
But as for taste, it’s subjective,
everyone should come and give it a try if they have the chance ✨
