The "Wei Quan Rice Cake" at the Zhongxiao Road Night Market in Taichung has always been a must-try for me whenever I come here, and it definitely has its charm. The ingredients for the rice cake are very rich, with shredded meat, braised pork, and quail eggs perfectly paired. The rice is soft and sticky, and the rich soy sauce flavor seeps into every bite, making it irresistible. Every time I order the rice cake, I also get a braised duck egg. The duck eggs here are truly unique, with large and creamy yolks that make for a perfect match when paired together.
In the past, I would also add pork rib soup, but over the years, the prices have been rising steadily. Now, the combination of rice cake, soup, and duck egg costs nearly 150 NT dollars, which is a bit much for me now, so this time I only ordered the rice cake and duck egg. Additionally, this place does see quite a crowd, but their serving speed is relatively fast, so you don’t have to wait too long.
Wei Quan Rice Cake can be considered a classic snack at the Zhongxiao Road Night Market, but with prices having soared recently, I still choose to eat here; however, I feel like I can't go back to the way things were. I can only say that indulging in it occasionally is still worthwhile.
