The dishes at Chen Ji Zhuang Yuan Congee are relatively bland in flavor, especially the char siu in the Three Treasures Rice, which lacks the flavor of the sauce. However, the congee and baked milk cabbage perform quite well. The fresh shrimp tofu skin is small and solid, while the taste of the fresh shrimp rice roll is somewhat lacking. The appearance of the dishes is very close to the pictures.
The restaurant's decor is quaint and charming, featuring wooden tables and chairs with gentle lighting, creating a unique atmosphere that evokes a sense of tradition.
Although the service method has changed, customers need to help themselves to water and utensils, and a 10% service charge will be collected, which may be inconvenient for some. The diversified payment options provide peace of mind.
The exterior of the shop has an antique charm, and the interior decor features plenty of wooden tables and chairs, with gentle lighting tones. Upon entering the store, there is an unobstructed view of the kitchen, where several employees are busy working. Initially, I was concerned that with such a store, there might only be one payment method available, but a glance at the counter reassured me—thankfully, it also accepts ____Pay. With great anticipation, I looked at the menu and initially doubted whether the pictures provided were too simple. However, once the dishes were served, I realized that the pictures and the actual presentation of the food were very close. As for the taste, I believe there are other dishes in Hualien that are worth trying!
Chenji Zhuangyuan Porridge can be regarded as a long-standing restaurant in Hualien. The store is located near the Dongdamen Night Market in Hualien. Before the epidemic, the way to order food in the past was to order directly at the intersection when you first entered the store, looking at the food. The clerk helped to pick it up. The ordering method has changed a bit this time, but I still like the previous ordering method.
The price is really expensive for Hualien. The important thing is that there is a 10% service charge. There is no water, I have to get the cup by myself, the tissue paper, the dishes and chopsticks by myself...
The barbecued pork in the San Bao rice has a bland taste. It seems that there is no sauce, but the white rice is covered with sauce? In short, if you are expecting the same barbecue flavor as you would get from a regular barbecue restaurant, you may be disappointed because it lacks the delicious flavor of the sauce.
I prefer porridge and milk-baked cabbage.
The shrimp beancurd skin is small but very solid and delicious.
I don’t recommend the shrimp rice rolls. The shrimps are big but tasteless.
The decor deserves a thumbs up...very antique, so that's a bonus.
