Overall Review: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Dikson's mouthful food review is updated!
Although it's full of chatter 🤪, it's definitely sincere and real 🥺.
This time we're at the very famous cherry duck restaurant in Yilan.
I think when everyone hears about wanting to eat cherry duck,
they must think of this restaurant, the Landis Hotel in Yilan.
While it’s true that various ways to enjoy cherry duck are now famous beyond just this place,
the reputation of cherry duck has been quite well-known here for many years.
Dikson also came here to try it many years ago.
So after many years, how does it taste now?
Since this restaurant is located in a hotel,
you have to park your car first,
then follow the instructions to reach the floor where the restaurant is located.
Overall, the atmosphere is that of a very traditional Chinese banquet restaurant.
The menu explicitly states various five ways to enjoy roasted duck.
Besides roasted cherry duck,
there are also other typical Chinese dishes available!
But I think most people come here specifically for the cherry duck, right?
So when making a reservation, you can specify how many ducks you want.
Then on the day itself, they will process the ducks on-site
and serve the ducks in the five different styles one by one!
Each way of enjoying the duck is quite unique.
Of course, many years ago, I thought the cherry duck here was really great.
But after so many years,
a lot of other restaurants have also started to sell roasted ducks or cherry duck in various styles,
including many more varieties,
so it feels like this restaurant's advantage isn’t as strong anymore!
However, many people still specifically come to Yilan for cherry duck.
If you happen to pass by, I still think it’s quite recommended!
After all, the flavors and tastes are still quite special.
Even if you treat it like a regular Chinese restaurant,
it’s very suitable for family gatherings or friends to enjoy a meal together.
The taste is quite good.

⭐️ Food Part
Of course, the most basic dish is the roasted duck with five styles for $3488.
👉 Hong Lou Xiao Man Han
The name sounds nice but consists of various small dishes.
Plum tomatoes, braised beef,
honey mustard asparagus, five-flavor squid, green beans, jellyfish skin,
honey pumpkin, drunken chicken.
Among these, I personally prefer the braised beef and drunken chicken.
The plum tomatoes are just regular tomatoes with plum.
The others are more typical small Chinese dishes,
and if you don’t especially want these small dishes,
you don’t necessarily need to order this small feast. 🤣🤣🤣
👉 Fragrant Braised Duck Platter
The fragrant braised duck platter feels more like a collection of leftover parts after processing an entire duck.
I feel this dish among the five styles is relatively ordinary.
You could also think of it as an appetizer.
👉 Cherry Duck Sushi
From my last visit to this time,
I consistently think this dish is probably the best among the five styles in my opinion.
Since each one is a piece of sushi,
you must take the opportunity to enjoy it properly.
This is where the essence of cherry duck is made into sushi.
Some might find it too fatty or rich,
but I personally think for a single bite,
this part is just right!
I really like this dish.
👉 Peking Duck Wrap with Sanxing Scallions
This is probably my second favorite among the five styles.
Of course, when talking about duck dishes,
there must be duck wraps using pancakes to hold the duck.
Here, it specifically mentions that it uses Sanxing scallions as a pairing.
After all, Yilan is famous for producing Sanxing scallions.
This part has other sauces for pairing,
so you can freely choose to eat the duck wrap plain or with the Sanxing scallions.
You could also wrap it with the pancake to eat.
Of course, if you run out of pancakes, you can purchase more.
I really love this dish too—
I would be even happier if the portions could be a bit bigger. 🤣🤣
👉 Three Cup Duck Bone Pot
This dish mainly uses the three-cup cooking method for preparation.
It takes the leftover duck bones and meat
and processes them using this method.
Since there’s a lot of remaining meat and bones,
it feels like searching for leftover meat in the pot!
I personally think this dish is just okay.
As mentioned earlier,
it’s about picking out some leftover duck meat among the not-so-plentiful meat.
Of course, for friends who enjoy gnawing on bones, I think it’s not bad,
because the duck bones and meat are very flavorful after the three-cup cooking method!
👉 Slow-cooked Cabbage Duck Soup
The remaining parts will be used to make duck soup.
This cabbage duck soup,
I personally feel is above average.
Of course, since they put the duck in to cook the soup,
overall, it can be a bit oily.
However, it’s still considered clear soup.
The cabbage paired with duck soup gives it a rather light flavor,
making it a nice option for the latter part of the meal
to help cleanse the palate.
👉 Taro Sago
Taro sago is ordered as a dessert.
If you order it, you’ll get a whole bowl delivered to the table,
which can be shared by everyone.
The sago has a strong taro flavor,
so those who aren’t fond of taro should take note.
The sweetness isn’t overly strong,
making it very suitable as a finish after eating an entire duck,
to help alleviate richness!
As for food,
I think this Landis Hotel Cherry Duck has been famous over the years for a reason.
Even though there are indeed more competitors in recent years,
even within Yilan nearby, there are now other establishments specializing in cherry duck.
But this restaurant still sees quite a crowd.
And after so many years, the menu is still the ever-popular five styles of cherry duck.
Years ago, I thought their cherry duck sushi was fantastic,
and I still find it to be quite similar now.
I think attention should be paid to possibly introducing some new variations!
⭐️ Drink Part
If you don’t specifically order drinks,
selecting the set meal means each person gets a soft drink.
Though there are many choices for soft drinks,
basically, it’s the same basic drinks provided in cans or plastic bottles.
So there's nothing special about this part if you don’t order any additional drinks.
⭐️ Atmosphere Part
This is a very traditional Chinese banquet restaurant,
with many round tables throughout the dining area.
So the spacing between the tables is actually quite close.
Moreover, because of the crowd, the overall space feels a bit noisy.
However, since everyone is eager to eat,
I find the noise level is quite tolerable.
Over the years, the decor of this restaurant should be quite impressive.
The interior space feels modern and not outdated.
The whole atmosphere is very suitable for family gatherings
or for multiple friends to come together for drinks and meals.
It’s all very appropriate.
⭐️ Service Part
As with most duck houses nowadays,
they will first bring the entire duck right in front of you.
Then they directly do some preparations in front of you.
After preparing, of course, they will take it back for plating or further cooking.
Of course, you might wonder,
how do you know the duck they take back is the one you originally ordered?
Well, we certainly don’t know. 🤣🤣🤣
But just as when eating out elsewhere,
how do you know that the pork, fish, or beef you ordered all comes from the same animal? 🤣🤣🤣
Alright, I digress.
So primarily, the service here will involve directly processing the duck you ordered right in front of you—
demonstrating how it’s sliced and then placing it on a plate to be returned for cooking.
⭐️ Price Part
Actually, considering today’s prices,
I feel this five-style duck isn’t too expensive.
Like ten years ago,
it felt like a luxury to eat cherry duck at Landis Hotel.
But now it feels like this kind of dining is fairly affordable.
In recent years, their price increases haven’t been very high.
Since it’s served family-style, it depends on how many ducks you decide to order.
If you eat a lot, of course, you can order two ducks.
Basically, it depends on the appetites of everyone at your table.
So I personally think the price is reasonable.
⭐️ Location Part
Since this restaurant is located inside a hotel,
if you happen to be staying at this hotel,
it’s just perfect.
You can go upstairs and directly enjoy cherry duck!
But if you’re friends from other cities,
you definitely have to drive here
and park in a nearby parking area
before entering the hotel.
Therefore, I think if you happen to pass through Yilan
and manage to snag a reservation,
it's absolutely worth coming here for a meal!
⭐️ Overall
I still think the cherry duck at Landis Hotel is worth a try.
If you haven’t been here,
I recommend you at least come here once
to try all five styles and experience their so-called king cherry duck’s specialties!
But if you’ve already tried it,
I think there's no need to specifically come for just that.
As mentioned earlier,
if you have a reservation, and happen to be passing through Yilan,
I think you should come and give it a shot!
Went to dine with relatives and family. Bada and Liang ordered a special meal for ten people. We made a reservation at 1:30 p.m., but the actual meal time was at 2 p.m.
The dishes are mainly small plates with a variety of dishes. Each dish is not too much. There is only a little left for 8 adults. The ingredients are quite fresh, especially the fish is very soft and tender, and the meat is of good quality.
The cherry duck nigiri sushi is also good. It is recommended to eat it as soon as possible after cutting it. It will lose its deliciousness when it is cold. Almost all duck dishes are delicious, well seasoned and not too salty, and the service is also good. Bowls and plates are often changed, or hot tea is replenished.
If you have enough budget, you can come here to eat with family and friends, but it is recommended to make a reservation early, otherwise there will only be other time slots left.
