The dishes at Zang Sushi are impressive in terms of freshness and creativity. The sweet shrimp and grilled cheese salmon are satisfying, while the sea urchin and double crab gunkan have minor flaws. The salted soft-boiled egg tuna gunkan is a delightful surprise, and overall, the cost-performance ratio is high.
The spinning wheel lottery game adds fun and surprise to dining, allowing people to enjoy delicious food while also experiencing a sense of childlike wonder and ritual.
In the midst of the competition among sushi chain restaurants in Taiwan, "Zang Sushi" can be said to be one of the popular representatives. This time, I finally visited a branch near the Hashiwak Station for my first-ever experience at Zang Sushi—when my friends heard about it, they were surprised and exclaimed, "You’ve just tried it now?!", and yes, it's true.
I tried several signature and popular items this time. Overall, the freshness and creativity are reflected in the offerings, but there were also some misses.
Sweet Shrimp
This is a classic safe choice, with tender meat and a sweet taste. The ocean flavor when it enters the mouth is just right, making it one of the satisfying items this time.
Grilled Salmon Belly Sushi
Salmon lovers may be disappointed; the grilled aroma is not prominent enough, and the fat distribution is a bit bland, making it taste rather ordinary.
Grilled Cheese Salmon
This one gets major points! The melted cheese and the rich flavor of the salmon interweave perfectly, with a rich taste complemented by a hint of grill aroma. This is definitely my top choice this time. If you’re like me and love cheese, don’t miss it! 🧀
Sea Urchin Gunkan / Crab Gunkan
Did not meet expectations. The fishy taste of the sea urchin and crab meat was more pronounced, possibly due to batch or storage issues, and the flavor didn’t reach the standard for freshness and smoothness, which is a bit regrettable.
Salted Soft-Boiled Egg Tuna Gunkan
Surprisingly delicious! The smooth texture of the soft-boiled egg pairs well with the savory tuna sauce. When dipped in soy sauce and eaten in one bite, it offers rich layers and a balanced savory flavor, leaving a deep impression!
Chocolate French Gold Brick
Desserts at Zang Sushi often receive mixed reviews. This one performed decently—crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and with just the right sweetness, it’s suitable for those who enjoy rich desserts.
Spin-the-Wheel Prize Game: Zang Sushi features the iconic five-plate spin-and-win game, adding a playful touch and surprise while enjoying the meal. I was super lucky this time and won on my first spin, getting the adorable Olaf capsule toy! This sense of ritual really makes one want to eat a few more plates of sushi to meet the prize draw requirements.
Although it was my first experience, the dining experience at Zang Sushi near Hashiwak Station was quite satisfactory; individual items still had surprising elements, such as the grilled cheese salmon and salted soft-boiled egg gunkan, which left a lasting impression. While the sea urchin and crab gunkan were a bit disappointing, overall, considering the positioning of an affordable chain, the cost-performance ratio remains high, coupled with the interesting prize draw system and spinning design, making the dining process even more enjoyable!
