Spicy stinky tofu is flavorful and fragrant, while the braised firm tofu is light yet aromatic. The spicy duck blood with fat intestine is heavily seasoned and tender. All three dishes are suitable to be paired with rice, making one feel full.
The decor inside the store doesn't look old, the cleanliness is acceptable, the chairs are cutely designed, but the seating arrangements are a bit cramped.
The staff attitude is good, there is no service charge, transportation is convenient, and parking is easy.
There are quite a few tofu restaurants on Deep Pit Old Street, and this one claims to be an old shop at the temple entrance, so we decided to give it a try. There were a good number of customers, and we had to wait for about 10 minutes. While waiting, I noticed that their chairs were tofu-shaped, which was quite cute. They have two floors, and we dined on the second floor. Although it’s an old shop, the place doesn’t feel outdated and is fairly clean, but because there are many customers, the seating is quite cramped.
We ordered spicy stinky tofu, which was indeed spicy and very flavorful; I thought it was quite delicious. The braised tofu was milder in comparison but still quite fragrant—a good option for those who are afraid of spicy food. As for the fatty intestine and duck blood, I was initially worried about the fatty intestine having an odd taste, but the seasoning for the duck blood was strong enough, and it was tender, making for a great combination.
All three dishes we ordered were perfect to go with rice, and we felt extremely full after eating. The staff's attitude was pretty good, and I would consider returning if I have the chance.
【New Taipei Shenkeng】Wang Shui Cheng Old Shop Shui Cheng Restaurant
Every time I visit Shenkeng Old Street, I see a line at this restaurant. That day it rained and the shop was quite empty, so I decided to give it a try. Overall, my impression is that the food is very salty. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t eaten at an old street restaurant for too long, but it's not very cheap! Many dishes are priced similarly to stir-fry restaurants, and personally, I don’t think I would come back.
Previously, I would just randomly choose a restaurant to buy stinky tofu with duck blood, and the standards actually weren’t bad; the flavors just vary. I used to frequent #HometownFlavors for reference.
Stinky Tofu (two pieces) $80 (Spicy✨/Garlic): I recommend the spicy flavor! Usually, I don’t eat much spicy food, but this one is tolerable. The tofu is juicy, and the garlic flavor is just non-spicy tofu with garlic.
Complete Duck Blood $280: The duck blood is tender and flavorful, but it has a slight texture like pig's blood—not the watery kind. In terms of taste and texture, it's half-recommended.
Braised Bamboo Shoots (small) ✨$140: One of the three treasures of Shenkeng. You must order the bamboo shoots when you’re there. They’re very tender and not stringy.
Crispy Fried Mushrooms (small) $220: This was what my family wanted to eat, but I can’t really taste its value. Without pepper and salt, it’s just flavorless.
Braised Pig Intestines ✨$250: Braised very well, with a slightly sweet taste—great with rice.
Stir-fried Cabbage (small) $130: Isn’t cabbage not very cheap right now? :) It’s just boiled vegetables, nothing special.
White Rice $15: We ordered three bowls, but what came to the table was a pot full! A small bowl can hold 3-4 bowls.
