【New Taipei Shenkeng】Wang Shui Cheng Old Shop Shui Cheng Restaurant
Every time I visit Shenkeng Old Street, I see a line at this restaurant. That day it rained and the shop was quite empty, so I decided to give it a try. Overall, my impression is that the food is very salty. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t eaten at an old street restaurant for too long, but it's not very cheap! Many dishes are priced similarly to stir-fry restaurants, and personally, I don’t think I would come back.
Previously, I would just randomly choose a restaurant to buy stinky tofu with duck blood, and the standards actually weren’t bad; the flavors just vary. I used to frequent #HometownFlavors for reference.
Stinky Tofu (two pieces) $80 (Spicy✨/Garlic): I recommend the spicy flavor! Usually, I don’t eat much spicy food, but this one is tolerable. The tofu is juicy, and the garlic flavor is just non-spicy tofu with garlic.
Complete Duck Blood $280: The duck blood is tender and flavorful, but it has a slight texture like pig's blood—not the watery kind. In terms of taste and texture, it's half-recommended.
Braised Bamboo Shoots (small) ✨$140: One of the three treasures of Shenkeng. You must order the bamboo shoots when you’re there. They’re very tender and not stringy.
Crispy Fried Mushrooms (small) $220: This was what my family wanted to eat, but I can’t really taste its value. Without pepper and salt, it’s just flavorless.
Braised Pig Intestines ✨$250: Braised very well, with a slightly sweet taste—great with rice.
Stir-fried Cabbage (small) $130: Isn’t cabbage not very cheap right now? :) It’s just boiled vegetables, nothing special.
White Rice $15: We ordered three bowls, but what came to the table was a pot full! A small bowl can hold 3-4 bowls.
