I visited a newly opened sukiyaki restaurant in Kyoto on November 5th 🐮

The restaurant is called Goten Go and is located a short walk from Karasuma Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line and Shijo Station on the Kyoto City Subway 🚃.

The atmosphere is calm, featuring semi-private rooms and tatami seating ✨.

I enjoyed the premium wagyu sirloin for 8,800 yen 🐮. The sukiyaki course included:

  • Roast beef
  • Braised beef tongue
  • Steak sukiyaki
  • Sukiyaki
  • Rice
  • Dessert ✨

The cold water was served in a cute cup that changes color when filled with water 🌸.

The roast beef 🐮 came with ponzu jelly, and the meat was incredibly tender, perfectly complemented by the refreshing ponzu sauce ✨. The wasabi served alongside was also a great match and delicious 🔥.

The braised beef tongue 🐮 was big and well-cooked, so tender it could be cut with chopsticks 🐮. The broth was delicious and absorbed nicely into the beef tongue. The green onions and shredded chili pepper added a nice crunchy, spicy accent and were tasty 🔥.

I was given a choice of eggs 🥚. They used a rich dark blue egg from Kyoto, and the yolk was extremely rich 🥚.

The espuma sauce 🥚 consisted of:

  • Egg 🥚
  • Cream
  • Truffle salt 🧂
  • Gas

For the steak sukiyaki 🐮, they provided thick slices of marbled meat 🐮 and white leeks 🐮. The meat was grilled in a pot lined with beef fat 🔥. They grilled it to my preferred doneness 🔥 and finished it off with a dipping sauce, suggesting I eat it with egg and the espuma sauce as I liked ✨. The meat was tender, rich, and incredibly delicious 🐮, and the egg paired perfectly with the sukiyaki sauce 🥚. The espuma sauce was fluffy with a strong truffle flavor and absolutely delicious 🥰.

For the sukiyaki 🐮, I first tried it yaki-niku style 🐮. It had a nice sear, and I paired it with egg, and it was incredibly delicious 🥰. Next, they made it in the traditional sukiyaki style, with marbled meat 🐮, grilled tofu, onions 🧅, carrots 🥕, shiitake mushrooms 🍄, shirataki noodles, and maple leaves 🍁, making for a hearty meal ✨. It was simmered perfectly, and every ingredient was delicious 🥰. The meat melted in my mouth, and I finished it in no time 🐮. The vegetables absorbed the sauce beautifully and tasted amazing 🥬.

For the rice, they used a selection of "delicious rice" carefully chosen by Yatsushiro Hihinbeyeee 🌾. It was served in a clay pot and was fluffy, delicious, and had a nice crispy bottom 🥰.

For dessert, we had matcha and sweet rice dumplings 🍵🍡. We whisked matcha powder and milk in a bowl with a tea whisk, drank a few sips, and poured it over the dumplings 🍵. I was happy to experience whisking tea 🍵. The matcha latte was delicious, and the sweet rice dumplings, warabi mochi, and red bean paste paired perfectly, making it all incredibly tasty 🍵.

It was a very satisfying course 🥰.

Delicious and fun, it's a highly recommended restaurant to visit when you're in Kyoto 🥰.
