Tainan offers a wide selection of ice shops, and Nostalgic Little Hut is quite a distinctive one, specializing in almond tofu ice products, which are different from regular shaved ice shops. The decor of the store is not extravagant, but it has a nostalgic ambiance, which explains why it is called Nostalgic Little Hut. Enjoying a bowl of ice on a hot day is truly refreshing.

This time, I ordered the signature almond tofu ice, with toppings of sesame condensed milk and glutinous rice balls. As soon as the ice arrived at the table, I could smell the faint aroma of almonds. The almond tofu itself is cut into small pieces, with a soft and tender texture that is smooth to the palate.

After adding the sesame condensed milk, the overall flavor became richer. The aroma of sesame pairs wonderfully with almonds, enhancing the sweetness without being overwhelming, thus adding a layer of complexity to the whole bowl of ice. The sweetness of the condensed milk, the fragrance of the sesame, and the freshness of the almonds blend together beautifully.

The glutinous rice balls are small and have a chewy texture, which makes it fun to eat them with the ice. Having a bite of ice followed by a glutinous rice ball creates a delightful contrast in texture.

Nostalgic Little Hut's ice is not flashy but instead uses simple ingredients to create classic flavors. Particularly the almond tofu ice, which is truly distinctive, and it’s no wonder it has been thriving in Tainan for so long. After finishing it, one feels that this old-fashioned dessert is actually quite enduring.
