Vegan cuisine is enjoyable, especially the Thai dishes which are well-received. The wasabi hamburger is substantial, but it seems a bit dry. The Japanese-style fried pork cutlet burger did not meet expectations in terms of the flavor of the mustard sauce, and the texture of the plant-based meat felt slightly soft.
The interior is stylish and spacious, making it suitable for dates or dining with friends, although the seating arrangement may feel somewhat inconvenient.
The weekend was crowded, which meant it took time to serve the food, but it is appreciated for allowing me to enjoy a meal with my vegan friend without having to worry.
Title: The Odd Student - What to Eat
This time, I visited the vegetarian restaurant BaganHood, located near the city government, which serves vegetarian food and drinks.
You can choose between dishes with five pungent spices or completely vegan options. It's a very friendly restaurant that offers a lot of vegetarian choices.
★ Dishes:
Japanese-style fried pork cutlet burger, paired with a selected salad.
★ Thoughts:
I chose this because I saw that the sauce used was mustard sauce and tamarind sauce; I like this kind of contrasting flavors.
When the dish arrived, the salad came with a refreshing fruit vinegar dressing, which was tasty.
Aside from the top bun of the burger being very crispy, I was initially looking forward to the sauce, but there was actually very little of it. The expected clash of mustard heat and tamarind sweetness was only present for a second; it had a brief mustard sensation, and then nothing else. The plant-based pork cutlet in the middle was similar to vegetarian meat I’ve had before. Once it was inside the burger, the plant-based cutlet became soft and lost its crispiness. Overall, it wouldn’t be recommended by meat eaters as a vegetarian burger, but it might be acceptable for vegetarians. However, at this price, I wouldn’t order the burger again, but I would be willing to give other items a chance next time.
As for vegetarian burgers, I still prefer the patties from the brand "Shan Guo" (unfortunately, they have closed down).
★ Waiting Time:
10 minutes
★ Budget Tip:
The restaurant recently collaborated with "Xu Si Mi" (event details at the counter). They are offering a free box of sanitary pads if you add them as a friend. These pads claim to be environmentally friendly and biodegradable.
My friend is vegan, so I looked for a restaurant where we could enjoy ourselves without any concerns, and we made a reservation to go there on the weekend. ☀️
[Atmosphere of the Restaurant]
The restaurant had a stylish and spacious interior, making it perfect for dates or dining with friends! We made a reservation for four people, but for some reason, we were seated at an L-shaped sofa, which made it a bit difficult to talk among the four of us. 😂
[Food Evaluation]
The wasabi burger I ordered was very filling! However, it didn't have much of a wasabi flavor, and maybe because it wasn’t real meat, it was a bit dry. Given its size, it crumbled quite a bit every time I took a bite, making it hard to eat. 💦 The taste wasn't bad, but the buns were also quite dry, which contributed to the difficulty in eating. My friends ordered vegan Thai dishes and were very satisfied with their choices!
It took quite a while for the food to be served, possibly because it was busy on the weekend, but when I go out with my vegan friend, we always try to be mindful of each other's meals. So, I appreciated not having to worry about that here. If I get the chance, I would definitely like to visit again! ✨
