The squid has a chewy texture and is full of aroma, while the soup is slightly sweet with a southern flavor. The portion is generous and the price is reasonable.
The restaurant is located in the Huangshi Market of Banqiao, offering takeout only, and features a strong local flavor.
Bracketed comment on the braces: Takeout only
Located at the Huangshi Market in Banqiao, Gao Ji Fried Squid is a snack shop without dine-in seating. I seem to remember it used to have seating, but now it only offers takeout to eat on the go. I have been here before, and this time I happened to pass by and decided to try it again.
The squid has a chewy texture and is full of flavor, while the soup base is slightly sweet with a rich southern flavor. The portion is generous, and the price is reasonable. Every time I come here, I usually buy some crispy radish cake from the next stall to go with it. The radish cake is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, complemented by a salty sauce, making it even more satisfying when eaten with the fried squid soup. It’s a classic combination that shouldn’t be missed!

Gaoji, a popular local snack spot, I don’t even know when it became famous, but as a local, I've never tried it before. I happened to come here for lunch, and even though it rained a little, there was still a bit of a crowd.
Overall, there’s a lot of ingredients, and the flavor is quite just right—not too sour or too sweet, but I don't usually eat this kind of squid soup, so I don't have much to share.
That day, there was no indoor seating available, so I just had it in a bowl on the side, which felt very local (?). It’s a flavor worth trying if you happen to be passing by.
