The Sicilian lemon sparkling coffee has a rich flavor, and the Japanese-style grilled meat is well-seasoned. However, other dishes like the Mexican chicken leg brunch and BBQ pulled pork did not perform well, and the dessert, such as the apple cinnamon roll, has a weak flavor.
The store has a spacious interior, a quiet and comfortable atmosphere, making it suitable for long chats or as a place to relax for afternoon tea.
The boss is friendly and handsome, and the service attitude is pleasant.
J & J Cafe is located on Hengyang Road. The space has a coffee shop vibe, making it suitable for long chats or as a spot for afternoon tea. The menu offers a rich variety, from brunch to main courses and desserts, but after dining, you'll find that the quality varies significantly between dishes, making it less suitable as a "main meal" restaurant.
The standout dish is the "Japanese-style BBQ Beef."
Well-seasoned with a balanced sweet and savory flavor, the meat is tender, and the generous portions of side dishes add sincerity to the overall experience. This dish is one of the few that truly feels well-prepared.
The brunch selection, however, is noticeably unbalanced.
In the "Mexican Chicken Thigh Brunch," the chicken thigh is prepared using a heating pouch, resulting in a mildly spicy and singular flavor. The biggest issue is the accompanying frozen croissant, which is dry and hard, dragging down the overall performance of the dish. Fortunately, the salad is relatively fresh, the scrambled eggs contain cheese, enhancing the taste, and although the portion of fruit is small, it is of good quality.
The "German Sausage Brunch" features average sausages without distinct flavor. The side dishes are nearly identical to those served with the Mexican chicken thigh, lacking variety, making it feel monotonous.
The "BBQ Pulled Pork" also falls short of expectations, with meat and sauce lacking depth. The dish is generally dry, missing the moisture and aroma that pulled pork should have.
As for desserts, the "Apple Cinnamon Roll" barely carries the scent of cinnamon, relying solely on diced apples for texture, which makes the flavor weak. The "Tiramisu," while having a clear coffee aroma, is too oily, and by the end, it feels a bit heavy.
Overall, the dishes at J & J Cafe are better suited to accompany drinks as snacks rather than being the main attraction for a meal. If you visit, it’s recommended to focus on coffee and desserts as a casual afternoon tea rather than a full meal.
Near Exit 3 or 4 of Ximen, it takes about five minutes to walk there. The seating has plenty of space. I came on a weekday afternoon, and I was the only customer in the shop. It was very quiet. 🤣 The minimum charge is $150 or one drink.
☕️ Sicilian Lemon Sparkling Coffee $170
Since it was too hot, I ordered it iced. I have always loved Sicilian coffee, and the slight fizz really cools you down. There’s caramel on the rim of the cup, so when you sip, you bite into the crunchy sugar. The texture and layers are very rich. The bitterness and acidity blend well together without any one flavor standing out too much. I really liked it!
And one more important point: the boss is very handsome. Hahaha! Everyone can come and verify for themselves. 🤣
