The 300th article worth commemorating.
Dedicated to the famous shop in Shoufeng, Hualien, Fengchun Ice Shop.
This old ice shop has been around for over 70 years and is located on Section 1 of Shoufeng Road, a slight left turn after coming out of the Shoufeng train station.
Today, we enjoyed two bowls of sugarcane ice for a total of 120 TWD.
Sugarcane Ice:
Fengchun Ice Shop only sells this bowl of ice, and you can freely choose two types of toppings.
What is sugarcane ice?
It is an ice treat made from syrup boiled from sugarcane, refreshing with a fragrant sugarcane scent. Although I don't like the smell of sugarcane juice, I can eat several bowls of Fengchun's sugarcane ice.
For toppings, we chose lotus seeds, taro, and grass jelly.
The grass jelly is so delicious that we chose a portion for each bowl of ice.
The traditional-style grass jelly is sweet but not overly so, refreshing and cooling—perfectly paired with sugarcane ice.
The taro is very rich; it melts in your mouth, and then taking a bite of refreshing sugarcane ice is truly enjoyable.
The texture of the lotus seeds is my favorite; it has a nice bite without being too hard, showing that the preparation of the toppings requires considerable effort.
The shop is currently not open for indoor dining due to renovations from a strong earthquake, but they have provided a few solid wood chairs so customers can sit at the entrance to finish their treats.
Looking into the shop, you can see the antique ice-making pipes distributed throughout, which is also a sight to behold.
Overall, this is a must-try ice treat when passing through the Shoufeng area in late spring and summer.
Although they only operate half the year, they often close temporarily or run out of toppings, even when you pass by.
But next time we pass, we will still want to stop by just for this wonderful ice treat.
Highly recommended to everyone!
