This curry is located near Taipei Main Station and the Museum of Contemporary Art. I am a regular customer here. I used to get a $10 discount for takeout, so I often take it out, but this time I found that this discount has been cancelled.
There are not many seats in the store. There are generally about 18 seats at the table, and there are 3 seats at the bar. The curry smell in the store is very strong, and you will smell it on your clothes after eating.
After you sit down, the waiter will bring menus and water to your seat, and will also go to the table to order. You can just check out after finishing your meal, but there is no additional service fee. Like it.
p.s. The shop assistants are very cute, they were even cooler when I was taking photos
There is often a queue during dinner time, so there is a 60-minute dining time limit, but I think this is okay. Curry is not something that takes a long time to eat.
There are two flavors of curry sauce to choose from, "Japanese Classic" and "Nanyang Coconut Flavor", but I choose "Japanese Classic" every time, so I can't comment on "Nanyang Coconut Flavor" yet.
p.s. People who can tolerate spicy food are advised to ask the store clerk to add chili oil~
One of us ordered Japanese Tangyang Fried Chicken Curry for $180, and the other ordered Tianyuan Fried Chicken Curry for $210.
The difference between the two is that the Garden Fried Chicken Curry has some more vegetables, such as king oyster mushrooms, eggplants, bell peppers, and pumpkins. It feels like they are fried, which is very fragrant but not oily. It’s pretty awesome. I like Robben’s very much. All the vegetables are delicious, including the original cauliflower, carrots and potato cubes (the potato cubes are really delicious!)
Robben’s Tang Yang Fried Chicken is also very good. Although there are only 3 pieces, each piece is very big and tastes very good. Highly recommended! (I ate cheese pork chop before and thought it was just popu)
As for the curry sauce, it has a bit of minced meat, is darker, not too watery, and has enough flavor to go well with rice. The first time I ate it, I thought it was very delicious, but maybe because I ate it so often, I felt a little numb. Now I think the curry sauce is just right.
Add set menu + $60 (choose two from four options: black sesame cold tofu, hash browns, daily soup, and 40 yuan drink)
There are 2 small pieces of hash browns. They smell a bit like fuel consumption, but they don’t taste like they are good.
The daily soup is borscht, but I didn’t drink it because I don’t eat tomatoes. My friend said, “There are quite a lot of ingredients in the soup, and there are also chopped potatoes. It’s a passable borscht.”
Overall, the prices at Robben's are very reasonable, the food is delicious, and the portions are sufficient (the two of us only ordered one set meal and we were still super full after finishing it), and because it's close to home, it's my first choice when I want to eat curry. , if you happen to be near Taipei Main Station, I recommend you to come and eat~
