Kaihanchuan Restaurant at Zhonghe Global Mall
We don't really like spicy food (like Sichuan or Hunan cuisine), so visiting "Kaihanchuan Restaurant" was a pleasant surprise. Knowing that it would be crowded during the New Year’s holiday and that reservations were no longer available, we decided to arrive early at the Zhonghe Global Mall location to try our luck. Fortunately, we were lucky. It seemed that dinner had just started, and there was a table available right by the entrance. We had to order the "Four-Person Set Menu" for 3,288 NT dollars, with a minimum charge of 600 NT dollars per person, which fulfilled our need even with five people.
We highly recommend the "Four-Person Set Menu," which includes 6 dishes, 1 soup, and a dessert. There are non-spicy dishes available, and even the dishes that are not spicy are very tasty. We finished everything, not just because we were hungry. Here are some highlights from the dishes we ordered. Please refer to the photos.
(1) Cold dish, choose 1 from 3: “Mouthwatering Chicken” - All cold dishes are spicy, but this one is really appetizing.
(2) Dry pot, choose 1 from 2: “Crispy Rice with Shrimp” - The crispy rice can be eaten like a snack with dipping sauce, which is nice.
(3) Vegetables, choose 1 from 3: “Seasonal Vegetables - Spinach” - Garlic stir-fried spinach, very delicious.
(4) Egg and tofu, choose 1 from 2: “Tear-Inducing Egg” - Both the egg and tofu are spicy; we chose the egg. Sautéed with small chili peppers and fried egg, it has a mildly spicy, crispy texture; a very special egg dish.
(5) New Year special, choose 2 from 3: “Bean Crushed Cod” - This is an excellent cooking method for cod, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
(6) New Year special, choose 2 from 3: “Generous Pork Ribs” (4 pieces) - The ribs are grilled to perfection, and the meat easily separates from the bone.
(7) Soup, choose 1 from 3: “Fresh and Sweet Pork Ribs Soup with Bamboo Shoots” - Very fresh and sweet, the ribs and bamboo shoots are delicious.
(8) Dessert: “Purple Rice and Red Bean Soup” (small) - A perfect end to the dinner.
In summary, a very fulfilling New Year dinner.
