Margaret's Egg Tart Shop is a highly popular Portuguese egg tart store in Macau. The shop is tucked away in a small alley near New Avenue, right next to St. Rose Church; its location is discreet, but the crowds are quite overwhelming. When I arrived early that day, there was already a long line around the corner, but the turnover was fast, and I managed to buy my tarts in about 15 to 20 minutes.

Upon entering the shop, I ordered and paid at the counter (cash only), and only with the receipt could I claim my egg tarts. One tart costs MOP$11, or six for MOP$65.

The tarts are freshly baked, still warm when handed to me, with an extremely flaky crust that crumbles upon biting, though they are also a bit oily. The filling is smooth and somewhat dense, not too sweet, and best enjoyed hot. The overall size is slightly small, but the layering is well done.

Although they only sell one flavor, it still attracts a large number of tourists and locals who come to pay homage. After eating, it's just right to take a walk back to the Post Office Square or St. Rose Church, making it perfect to include in a half-day excursion in the city.
