🚩 A Local Family Steakhouse in Xindian: 30 Years of Unchanging Vintage Atmosphere
Baby Steak, located right on the main road in Xindian that I often pass by, has been here for about 20-30 years. Having lived in the area for a long time, I had never eaten here, so I came with a sense of curiosity. The restaurant is on the second floor, with a gentle wooden decor that feels a bit like a cozy cabin in the forest. The choice of furniture shows some age but is not worn or shabby. Since I visited during lunch hours, the large glass windows created a pleasant atmosphere in the window seats. Although the overall decor is not very new, the ambiance is relaxing, clean, and comfortable.
After being seated, the staff brought the menu and utensils, and I ordered at the table with the help of the staff, settling the bill afterward—cash and various payment methods are accepted. The staff noticed my indecision in choosing and proactively informed me that I could mix and match the main course meat options, with a price deduction of one hundred dollars off the steak dish. I accidentally dropped my spoon during the meal, and the staff promptly replaced it, showing excellent service.
Today's ordered dishes:
Side A: Puff Pastry Cream Soup: The pastry was very crispy (crumbs scattered all over the table), and the soup was extremely hot when served, with little substance inside. (I saw that the kitchen had pre-served bowls of soup.)
Side B: Corn Cream Soup + Butter Bread: There were a few bits of corn and carrot inside, and it felt thickened with cornstarch, lacking a buttery flavor, and had a hint of sourness. The bread was not memorable but was fine to eat.
Baby Steak: Cooked medium, topped with a mixed sauce. The meat quality was average, but the cooking level was well executed, and overall, it justified the price.
Combination (Chicken Leg Steak + Halibut Steak): The combination is served on a large round griddle, and after it is brought to the table, you pour your own sauce. I chose mushroom sauce, which was on the sweeter side with a strong mushroom flavor, surprisingly delightful. The chicken leg steak had a good bite, though there were a few tendons that were a bit tough. The halibut steak portion was relatively small, but still enjoyable.
Overall, the dining experience was decent, though not to the extent that I would want to keep coming back. However, for just over two hundred dollars, the steak dish included a puff pastry cream soup, along with a comfortable dining space, I think it’s quite good—much better than night market stalls.
